We are going to end up with a Conservative government AGAIN at this rate, is that ok with everyone?

following a thread on AIBU I think about who would vote Tories again.....the main (only?) reason people are citing for voting Tories is the GC issue. Women totally abandoning social politics over a singular issue. declaring nothing else matters, if Labour can't get this right then, they won't vote for them

I can't work out if these people were Conservative voter's anyway/actually do agree that Conservative policy and practice generally, is in our best interests compared with Labour

OR they are prioritising GC issues above and at the exclusion of all else? because alot more women will have a lot more issues, if we have yet another round of Conservative Government

And they are ignoring that Labour (finally!) defined women as adult human female

AND ignoring that this whole debacle has happened under the Tories 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don't know what Labours policies on women will be, if they are as bad you claim, they wont be getting my vote either.

But before castigating them, i will wait to read their manifesto.

Given how many female MPs they have, i really don't see Lab as anti women but they have a few idiots in the party, many of whom like Long Bailey have been put on the back benches.

In the meantime i see the destruction of female rights under the Tories and i do not want another 5 years of that.

Labour has never even managed to vote in a female leader.

They are not the champion of women's rights that some on here believe.

They are in the pockets of men's rights activists.

If they cared enough about women, they would make it unequivocal now that they don't intend for any males to be deemed to be women. Why don't they?

I trust them on this issue about as much as I trust they have rid the party of antisemitic views.

The Conservatives are in power with a stonking majority and over a year to a GE.

If they cared enough about women, they would make it law that males cannot be deemed to be women. Why don't they?

Kemi Badenoch has started the process, it’s in consultation

It’s not fast. TRAs are legally motivated and many want pro women politicians to fail

AdamRyan · 10/10/2023 11:54

Kemi Badenoch "starting a process" is not good enough from a party that wants the country to believe they only party protecting sex based rights.

It's not publicised, there's no plan for it, there's no overall Conservative support. It's not in their manifesto, and wasn't talked about last week.

I think its desperate straw clutching from posters keen to believe the Conservatives might do what they want.

AdamRyan · 10/10/2023 11:56

Cooper: "We will require police to use tactics normally reserved for organised crime or terrorism to identify and go after the most dangerous repeat abusers and rapists and get them off our streets."

I love this. Actual practical policy to take violence against women seriously.

Well that’s the timing.

And Labour will make things worse so that’s all you’ve got.

A possibility or even worse

Up to voters to decide. If that legislation is ready to go by GE it’s a no brainer as far as women’s rights go.

It may well fall down and everyone who repeatedly posts ‘no one cares’ can be happy about it

I won’t be, it’ll be shit and worse under Labour. I won’t give up pushing and I’m sure I’ll see other motivated FWR posters tf

Anything beyond not caring I’ll gravitate towards

You do you. If you’re happy with Labour’s anti woman take knock yourself out.

Yes. It deals with actual risks to women and says that this a danger to wider society. Because sexual violence needs to be taken much more seriously

EasternStandard · 10/10/2023 12:06

It’s interesting that anyone who posts ‘I agree on biological sex definition’ wouldn’t want Badenoch to progress

It’s pretty much the only thing on the table. Labour loyalty is stronger than a solution for women

2 issues with this. -

TW pose the same risk of sexual violence to women as any other male, which is why we need single sex spaces away from all males, even ones who identify as women and hold GRCs - What is Labour going to do about this 'actual risk' or are you saying this things won't happen or haven't happened to enough women to be an 'actual risk'?

Secondly is this the same police that is under a civil service that holds and waves the rainbow flag and arrests women for hate crimes for things like stickering?

Excuse me if I consider these to be weasel words UNLESS they resolve the overriding issue of the definition of 'woman'.

Echobelly · 10/10/2023 12:13

There really aren't enough Labour voting women who feel strongly enough to actually change their vote to Tory, despite what tories are hoping.

If Labour are dealing with rapists, they are targeting dangerous people with penises, regardless of how they identify.

Perpetrators of sexual violence are far likely to have penises, regardless of how they identify. Victims of sexual violence are far likely to have vaginas, regardless of how they identify.

This policy can only be good for women by targeting predatory males. Forget posturing about "at least the Conservatives know what a woman is". Labour are actually going to do something about the atrocious rates of sexual offending and complete lack of deterrent.

I love this policy.

It was the op who stated Labour could lose, I don’t believe they are Tory

I’d say it’s not a done deal and immigration will play a role and maybe this

Posters talk about voters not caring but I reckon Sturgeon found out to the contrary. Politically it can hurt hence Starmer’s inability to speak clearly on it

Fluffyhoglets · 10/10/2023 12:19

AgentProvocateur · 09/10/2023 13:12

I’m not not voting Labour because of the GC issue, but because I don’t know what they would actually do about anything - the economy, employment etc. To me, they are a waste of a vote at the moment.

They are saying what they will do at the party conference right now. I mean granted you'll have to go read about it - but it's all being said.

To answer the OP I think alot of people saying this and feeding this narrative on social media are Tory voters anyway. Its part of the campaigning!

There are some people who would have voted Labour before and won't now just because of this - as left wingers do have a tenancy to demand ideological perfection in their candidates.

Tinklyheadtilt · 10/10/2023 12:29

So depressing if people are just voting for the Tories because they got dog whistled on trans rights. These idiots have been part of the worst government in living memory.

bombastix · 10/10/2023 12:31

@lifeturnsonadime - a rapist is a man. I don't see anything by Labour that this new policy carves out trans women.

Whereas the Met police, NHS and prison service appear not to know this under a Conservative government. The Met and the Prison service are not some sort of lefty charity. They are public services. Why the fuck is it that the Conservatives have allowed this to happen? Literally a problem they made, that they could actually fix but don't.

So you think Lisa Nandy has completely back tracked on her view on which prisons trans women who are rapists should be in? How interesting that she has not come out publicly and said so.

I don't disagree on you saying that it has happened under Conservative watch although I would question the amount of control you believe central government has over civil servants , the police and the NHS. But what have the opposition party done to stop this? Answer absolutely nothing because they are more in the lobbyists pockets than the government.

The fact that you don't realise that a Labour Government will be a gift to the trans lobbyists means you have not been paying attention. Or you just don't care, which is also fine. But I do and other women do and we are entitled to hold our views on this.

MentholLoad · 10/10/2023 07:21

this all happened under the Tories

I think that a lot of this can be explained by outsourcing plus austerity. It seems to me that companies & other organisations realised they needed to do something about diversity/trans employees (how did that need come to their attention?) & not having any experience, they outsourced it. I'd guess that due to austerity, there was no government body to provide guidance or oversee the results.

The government (OK, the Tories) took their eye off the ball & are only now beginning to catch up with the trouble this has caused.

That's my best guess, anyway.

bombastix · 10/10/2023 12:41

@lifeturnsonadime - Lisa Nandy would appear to have been demoted. Why is anyone's guess. But I don't think her nonsense is now a real impairment to voting Labour.

Whereas the actual delivery of real policy fuck up in this area is firmly Conservative and they are still not doing anything about it.

Newnametoavoidtrouble · 10/10/2023 12:48

Cooper: "We will require police to use tactics normally reserved for organised crime or terrorism to identify and go after the most dangerous repeat abusers and rapists and get them off our streets."
That would need active and consistent support from Police Commissioners and from Police officers themselves.
Some of the elected Commissioners have a funny record on policing.

Can anyone actually articulate what it is that they don't like about Starmer? Is it literally just the way he looks?! What is it that people have against him I'm genuinely intrigued? I've grilled someone on this before in my family and best they could say was he "looks a bit shifty". Erm helloooo Boris people? And anyway you do realise its not just a single person you vote for...it's a party and their policies. If the only reason to vote for a political party is on the leaders physical appearance or charisma then we are definitely in big trouble as a country!

@Purplefoxes

No, not just his looks. His demeanour, wet ways.

His back ground (look up when he he was

QC, Director of Publuc Prosecutions & Head of CPS)

See how much you like his attitude/behaviour over those years.

he flip flops more than any other politician & is two faced.

look at his flip flop on Brexit. He was' o your side' at some point, no matter which side you were on.

same as with 'what a woman is & which men should be able to declare themselves female/women. Which is why I don't trust his latest pronouncement on the topic. He says women are adult females, what he doesn't say is what he defines as female this week.

He's a lawyer, well able to look you directly in the eye, and lie.

so no it's not because he looks like a greasy, smarmy, self important lawyer, it's because he is a greasy, smarmy, self important bloke who will tell you what you want to hear now & then twist what he said if he were to get in.

mind you I'm NO fan of Sunak either, nor many of the others on either side.

i don't know what the answer is, but it's not starmer, reeves & that lot, that's for sure.

this new Labour is no more able to balance the books than old labour & we'll end ip
in a bigger pile of 💩 than last time they were in.

The Tories are just stoking up the trans issues deliberately. To allow them back into power given their record on their economy , NHS and education would be laughable

@anniegun

but do you have ANY idea what Labour would actually do? Because they don't seem to!

why assume they'd be the answer??

In other news Yvette Cooper and Emily Thornberry have announced actual practical policies to help real life women today

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-politics-67052729

That is indeed excellent news, but the problem remains that when Labour mean women do they mean actual women, or are they also including men who identify as women?

That is the crux of the matter.

Because of Labours party policy stance on the TWAW discussion (and their terrible treatment of anyone who disagreed with that) the word 'women' is meaningless coming from them IMO.

AdamRyan · 10/10/2023 13:16

How does the definition of women impact on a plan to target repeat rapists and sexual abusers exactly?
