Beavertown

Am I being over sensitive in HATING the name Beavertown for some beer?

Every time I try and use We transfer there is a big yellow ad of Beavertown which I find misogynistic and unfunny, when I go to the pub their plastic beer mats are on the counter.

I know I am not the target market but am I being over-sensitive to this laddish, disrespectful branding?

Help me out here...!

"Beavertown’s unusual name comes from the old cockney nickname for De Beauvoir (Town), a district in east London, and home of the brewery’s first premises."

De Beauvoir | Hidden London

A brief history of De Beauvoir (or De Beauvoir Town), a contrasting community of council blocks and early Victorian villas in west Dalston.

But surely the marketing co has failed miserably to miss the fact that beaver in modern times is a slang word for you know what?!

Are they trying to be edgy, 1980s throw backs or disruptive? Honestly in this woke era?

Never even tasted the beer and never would. It leaves me with strong feelings of bad taste which is exactly what you don't want in a beer??

I think you're being overly sensitive.

Whatsthepoint1234 · 20/08/2023 12:54

Definitely being over sensitive OP, it hadn’t even crossed my mind. You aren’t being unreasonable for not trying it though as it tastes like cat piss.

Eminybob · 20/08/2023 13:02

You understand that a beaver is first and foremost an animal don't you op? The cute little dam builders are the first thought that springs to my mind when I hear Beavertown, and the fact that you think of vulvas says more about you than it does about the bear makers OP.

Eminybob · 20/08/2023 13:04

*beer makers

PatriciaHolm · 20/08/2023 13:19

After seeing Air, it now just reminds me of Beaverton, the Oregon HQ of Nike!

Riapia · 20/08/2023 13:27

No wonder it tastes like piss.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 20/08/2023 13:30

I didn't know it was slang, I just think of a town full of cute beavers with their cute faces and dam building hobbies.

I think you're being weird OP

Cariebo · 20/08/2023 14:03

I get your point. I certainly don't think they would have used beaver if it was slang for a penis. My local B&M shop stocks an energy drink called Pussy Juice. Just seeing it makes me want to vomit.

Doyoureallyhavetoask · 20/08/2023 14:05

I was totally unaware of that slang OP.

Doyoumind · 20/08/2023 14:06

Come on. YABU. Cheryl Hole = offensive. Beavertown, given the explanation already pointed out, is a reach.

continentallentil · 20/08/2023 14:10

I think it’s unlikely you’d want to name a beer after female genitalia isn’t it?

Beaver is not uniquely a slang name for that, so I think your being oversensitive.

Well we need to rename them now don't we, not to mention female dogs are henceforth to be known only as female dogs, same with female cattle.

Theunamedcat · 26/08/2023 20:38

I'm old enough to remember "beaver hunt" tshirts of the 90s and early 2000 wore by obnoxious males looking for easy sex

LubaLuca · 26/08/2023 20:45

I don't think it's that sort of a brand, it's not meant to be 'nudge nudge'.

shmivorytower · 26/08/2023 20:51

you are massively overthinking

JustFrustrated · 26/08/2023 20:57

Way over thinking

I know this brand incredibly well, and that absolutely is not their intention.

This "woke" culture, (and that's an offensive term to many) is ruining and over sensitising people to innocuous things. BeaverTown brewery, as already said is named after it's first brewery.

Why should they not use that, because some people are vulgar?

cornflakesandtea · 26/08/2023 20:59

I love their pint glasses.

HorsePlatitudes · 26/08/2023 21:01

It’s delicious beer, I hate beer apart
from beaver town. And I think their 80s nerdy sci fi graphics are completely brilliant

WallaceinAnderland · 26/08/2023 21:07

Never did Cockburn any harm.

Grow up and stop being so juvenile.

weebarra · 26/08/2023 21:11

It's nice beer. I drink it a fair bit and it never occurred to me.

DutchCowgirl · 27/08/2023 11:13

My DH often drinks beer that what would be translated as “blonde slut” with a picture of an almost naked lady on it. I don’t really like it…

BiggerBoat1 · 27/08/2023 11:17

Really?

Just you I think.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 29/08/2023 07:37

It's not laddish, disrespectful branding, so yes you are being over sensitive.
