Why was this woman arrested like this!?! Her poor child!

According to other Tweeters, she had paid her bus fare BTW.

@BombasticSideEye "It's nothing to do with her race!!!!" "The police are under so much pressure as it is." "This happened to me once and I'm Kate Middleton's half cousin, a quarter removed".

Mind you Bomb these are the same women who work in hospitals treating Black patients, the same women with Black colleagues, some unfortunately who manage Black people in their teams, the same women concerned about 'women's solidarity'. When I tell you that these are the type of women you must fear first and foremost, they'll call me crazy.

I can see a scenario where this lady may not have understood what they were asking for, given that she wouldn't have had a ticket to show anyone (because London Transport don't issue tickets) and therefore, when they asked to see tickets, she didn't think it applied to her; and she walked away because it was her stop and she needed to get to wherever she was going to.. I live in London and have never had anyone asking to check my Oyster card on a bus.

Or possibly she may have panicked knowing that she didn't have a ticket - albeit legitimately because she'd used her card - and thought she would get picked on as a result of bitter experience of being picked on before solely because she was black.

The lady should have just shown her ticket, it wouldn't have escalated then.

She wouldn't have had a ticket to show. London Transport don't use them.

I started this thread as I am concerned about this woman and her child. As others have said, this memory will likely be a traumatic one for the boy sadly.

The police response seems disproportionate to the situation. At worst, she should have been issued a penalty if she refused to provide details of her ticket. No need for the police at all.

This particular board on the forum is a cesspit, this is light in comparison to their usual.

And this is exactly why despise being born and bred in the UK, I picked myself up and left. London will always be "home" but I have no plans to return. I feel less welcome in the UK than I do in the country I now live in despite having zero cultural ties to it!

And this is the part that I don't understand people glossing over. People evade fares every day in London. They're generally issued with an on the spot fine and sent on their way. There is ZERO excuse for the involvement of police let alone their behaviour. But because she's black and reacting, she's "aggressive, should have complied, brought it on herself". People have no idea of the lived reality of being black in the UK. She was probably utterly terrified for her child and for herself but her humanity is non existent in the eyes of MN so called "feminists". It's sickening.

You should drop in when they're discussing Black female singers, any will do as long a Black female singer is the subject. There's always something about them they just dislike but can't quite put their finger on it. Apparently their music spells the end of civilisation and the sexualising of young girls. Apparently it was candyfloss and rainbows before Black women started singing. A personal highlight was when they were discussing derogatory words used to describe women, 'bitch' is slightly uncouth but heaven help those who use the word 'thicc'. All that aside, my favourite is why Karen as a slur is just as bad as the n-word.

PerfectYear321 · 25/07/2023 00:27

There was a viral twitter video last year where two black boys were pinned to the ground by police for allegedly fair-dodging. 14 and 16 if I remember correctly. The 14 year old was terrified and couldn't speak. The older brother was filmed trying to plead with the police that they had tickets but they wouldn't listen. They did have tickets 🙄🤔

I really wish the populace demanded better, but no they would rather an awful world as long as it is awful for everybody.

DojaPhat · 25/07/2023 00:36

Remember that viral video with the white woman, the young Black man, and the city bike? That one had them going for days. Screen shots, alternative media sources, slowed down videos. All culminated in 'Why couldn't he just let her have the bike,', that poor woman.

IfUnicornsWereReal · 25/07/2023 00:40

From what I’ve seen, she was already getting off of the bus therefore was under no obligation to show the ticket inspector her Oyster card, which is why she was walking away.

Some of these inspectors are shockingly rude, similar happened to me a few weeks ago. I’d got on the bus tapped with my phone but it didn’t connect properly to the reader, the inspectors got on so as usual tapped my phone on their reader which showed I hadn’t paid my fare.

I apologised and tapped it again as I was sitting right next to the driver, this time it paid the fare so I went to sit back down, the inspector told me he was going to give me a fine for my unpaid fare asking for my name which I refused to give as I had paid, he started shouting in my face telling me he was calling the police, being very intimidating, even the driver was shocked and apologised as I got off the bus after a shouting match.

TFL are an absolute shambles, they don’t even take the fares straight away and take them randomly as and when they feel like it.

Do you think it's proportionate to arrest someone for a bus ticket when hit and runs, burglaries, muggings etc are not policed?

Extremely long message there justifying arresting someone for dodging a bus ticket.

Please invest your energy in to making our country a better place.

They shouldn’t be allowed to arrest people for pissing them off in any way then using the “offence” as the reason on paper for the arrest. It’s sickening treating a woman and child like that

Absolutely, but the video doesn't show what she actually did - the police say she was abusive, and we at this point have no way of knowing whether that's the case (other than previous experience). If she really was refusing to show her ticket, and then became abusive when stopped what should the police done? Just let her go?

Annaishere · 25/07/2023 01:05

I’d bet it was that she didn’t immediately give them her name or else stood her ground over the alleged offense

Sorry, that response wasn't to you - I'm very tired and forgot to quote the previous poster who was rather rude! I have no idea whether it was because of her race or not, I don't believe you can tell just from that video... but I don't think it's a good idea for anybody of any race to refuse to comply or resist arrest. What on Earth do they think is going to happen, the police will just give up and wish them a nice day?!
