There's also been an attempted murder of another woman and three children.

I am so fucking tired of reading about male violence against women and children.

I may have missed another victim . Apologies if so but I'm scared to look for fear that I'll read of another.

I am beyond done with this shit. I don't even have anything meaningful to say. I'm just way past disgusted.

Det Ch Insp Chris Bell called it a "serious and concerning incident" but said there was "no ongoing threat to the community"...

I know precisely what he means but I think his community and my community may not be quite the same community.

It's depressing as they don't even make the main news headlines. The papers seem more obsessed about where Prince Harry will be sitting in Westminster Abbey.

I also find the number of children being murdered in their own homes depressing. The sentences are really small too.

HoldingTheDoor · 07/05/2023 18:05

And another attempted murder and sexual assault on a 71 year old woman in Worcester, who is currently critically ill in hospital.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worcester-65520680

Fuck me. What a week.

One is far too many but it honestly seems like a constant barrage of hatred and violence against women and children.

I hope she pulls through

Me too, and I hope that the woman in Worcester pulls through too.

I agree entirely.

Horrible. Heartbreaking.

And what has baffled me most here in Scotland is the compassion shown for a.man who killed his pregnant wife before killing himself.

RIP to all these women. I'm so very sorry society failed to protect you. And the children. My god, the children.

AmuseBish · 08/05/2023 16:42

It's always, all the time, and each time that's another woman lost her life and another family devastated. Why are men killing women at this insanely high rate? I bang on about it all the time and NOTHING CHANGES. when will women's lives matter enough?

It never lets up and yet it's "boring" background noise, not even interesting enough to make headlines.

AnyFucker · 08/05/2023 16:44

Another fairly typical week in VAWG land. < rages >

SapatSea · 08/05/2023 17:46

So, so depressing. @ArabeIIaScott you are right, always compassion for the man who carries out so called "murder suicides." The minimising at every "level" is appalling. Never any mention or thought giving to lasting trauma that might result from what a judge may deem "minor." Examples from todays DM:
This "prince amongst men" got off with light community service for attacking his gf after he found out she had allegedly been seeing another man. He lost his job - boo hoo! punishment enough - eh? Kind of surprised it even made it to court TBH. A data bank of headshots should be made available locally so women know who to avoid.

This specimen will be out on license in less than 2 years and come looking for Rosie and the children again no doubt. She'll always be looking over her shoulder.

Thug dances by court as he avoids jail for shaving girlfriend's head

Owen James Tysoe, 32, 'lost his temper' and screamed 'you're a wh**e, you don't deserve to live' at his partner of three years on January 29 earlier this year.

I just can't begin to understand the sympathy extended to the perpetrators. While the woman is also pitied, yes, but it's somehow seen as equally sad. As if she bears some responsibility for the situation - a 'tragedy', rather than what it was - a brutal and unnecessary murder enacted on an entirely innocent victim by a violent fucking shitstain.

I haven't seen any compassion for him just rightly outrage on behalf of Marelle & Jayden. Most posts I saw were hoping he'd be found dead - as he was.

Well, I guess we saw different responses. I saw so many expressing sympathy for the 'three victims', I was staggered.

SquirrelSoShiny · 09/05/2023 08:15

I'm so sick of it. It's getting to the stage that I can barely watch the news. The news is essentially one long list of men being violent.

Why are men and women alike not saying, Enough?

StepAwayFromTheBiscuitJar · 10/05/2023 02:21

Well, if there are approx 33m men in the UK and around 100 murder a woman each year then that means that 0.0003% of men are murderers.

It's not going to be easy to find a way to identify them amongst the 99.99% who don't murder.

Oh how cute! NAMALT are they?

Thing is there IS a way to determine many of the sort of men who go in to kill the woman (and children) in their life, only in order for it to work, women have to be believed before they're dead. So no hope really then, is there?

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 10/05/2023 06:56

The Dartford woman referred to in the third post has died of her injuries (gun shot wound).

Disgusting blanket victim blaming

A man was charged with murder near where I live but they've not found the body (local rumours are gruesome)

What is this way of determining which men will kill others ?

It's called risk assessment - obviously you can't predict the future in black and white but you can look at things that are correlated with increased risk.

Things like prior violence, attempted violence, crossing boundaries, misogynistic behaviour. However if you've not come across it before, probably best to research it rather than randomly ask MN as it's a huge area of interdisciplinary research and analysis.

Well, if there are approx 33m men in the UK and around 100 murder a woman each year then that means that 0.0003% of men are murderers.

This sort of thing suggests that perhaps risk analysis might be tricky for you to understand. You can't really say that someone is 'not a murderer' because they didn't murder in a given year, but did in others.

I think there is a kind of unconscious instinct/impulse to side with men because they are the bigger ones with more power, when we all lived in simple tribes most people would have no choice but to just do what the big man told them to do, being loyal to the dominant male would mean you had better access to food shelter etc.
I don't mean to sound simplistic and I'm not trying to dismiss any of this but I think the unthinking deference to men could stem from these sorts of impulses.
