RIP Leah Croucher

stopmeifyouveheardthisonebefore · 03/03/2023 17:18

Leah Croucher was laid to rest today in Milton Keynes. Hundreds of people (including me) lined the streets to pay their respects to her funeral cortege as it passed.

She was a 19 year old woman walking to work at 8AM through a busy, pleasant, leafy suburban area where she should have been safe.

Police suspect a now-dead sex offender with multiple convictions to have abducted and murdered her.

VAWG never ends.

Rest in peace, Leah, and thoughts to her family and friends.

Hi folks

Can we draw the line and have a bit of peace and love now please? It would be a shame to remove this thread given the circumstances surrounding the discussion.

Thisisthewaywe · 03/03/2023 18:17

It doesn’t need deleting, just stop point scoring.

Please May I ask what VAWGstands for?

Violence against women and girls I think

Thisisthewaywe · 03/03/2023 18:19

Thank you @MrsMitford3

Thisisthewaywe · 03/03/2023 18:19

… and @Sunshineandrainbow

Her poor family. It is two years since Sarah Everard, too.

Daleksatemyshed · 03/03/2023 18:20

Let's not lose the point of the thread please. It's so sad, everyone worries about women walking home on their own in the dark but this poor young women was going about her normal life in the daytime, how many more young women must suffer like Leah because of some pathetic, perverted man?
Thank you for going and paying your respects, I'm sure it means a lot to her family to know they don't grieve alone

DanRogersAndHisHorse · 03/03/2023 18:23

Barbecuebeans · 03/03/2023 18:14

Actually it's you who've been very disrespectful and aggressive.

Agreed.

Not sure what you are trying to achieve @SchoolTripDrama tbh.

It's the constant fear, isn't it?

My oldest DD started secondary school about 6 months after Leah went missing from our local area. It's very hard letting go to allow children walk to school alone for the first time as it is, especially once the dark winter mornings come round.

Having a tragedy like this happen locally was so unexpected. Just devastating.

Just terrible.

I don't have any children @stopmeifyouveheardthisonebefore but I do worry for young women nowadays, and I've got to that age where I will happily intervene if I can see someone may be putting themselves in harms way because they don't see the risk or don't know how to get out of a difficult situation. It's so wrong how one really bad man can ruin so many lives and make so many women feel under threat

Cornelious2011 · 03/03/2023 19:10

I've not heard of this case before. Very sad.

AllDayBreakfast92 · 03/03/2023 20:50

I am sorry Leah. Women have no idea how much men hate them.

Bit disingenuous to use this tragic case as a vehicle for the man bashing agenda tbh. Men like this are a vanishing minority. It's like saying black youths carry knives.

AllDayBreakfast92 · 03/03/2023 20:52

Apologies, just saw mumsnet's comment (which tbf was pretty much saying the same thing as me).

Beaverbridge · 03/03/2023 20:54

Rip Leah.

bonjello · 03/03/2023 20:59

I'm so saddened by what she must have gone through.

Rest in peace. 🕯

motionsickness · 04/03/2023 08:59

This is the feminism section @AllDayBreakfast92 it's perfectly appropriate to talk about systemic violence and against women and girls here.

MN weren't saying what they think you were, they were asking people to move on from a petty argument about semantics early on in the thread.

I do wish people would look where they are posting before they wade in fists flying.

So the feminism section means it's OK to make sweeping generalisations about a demographic based on the actions of a fraction of a percent of them?

I disagree. If somebody said Muslims were terrorists or women don't like working full time I'd respond similarly because it's exactly the same logic.

AnyFucker · 04/03/2023 10:38

Men like this are a vanishing minority

It must be the same couple of men killing women at the rate of one every three days then.

Google tells me 108 women were murdered last year. Based on there being approximately 34m men in the UK, this means that 0.0003% of men murder women.

If you think you can generalise about a group based on the actions of 0.0003% of them then crack on. There are plenty of racists, sexists, etc, who will no doubt back you up on here.

I don't think there's much more to say so I'm out.

Redebs · 04/03/2023 11:08

Who comes onto a thread like this to argue?

This poor young woman has had her life brutally ended by a stranger.
I can't imagine the pain her family must have gone through.
As a mother and grandmother of girls, this is a nightmare situation that haunts me every time they go out and about.
Violence against women and girls and the fear of violence against women and girls holds us back. It limits us and makes us think of our safety at times when we should just be thinking of where we need to go and what we need to do.

I am so sorry that Leah never got to live her whole life. Just not good enough. Tragic.

AnyFucker · 04/03/2023 11:49

Probably for the best.

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 04/03/2023 11:53

This was such a sad case. I often thought of her and wondered if her family would have got answers sooner if covid hadn’t been the headline.

thank you for going. I am not local but I would have made the journey if I’d realised. It was a very very sad case

It’s not all men. But it’s all women who have experienced something.
either low level misogynistic harassing when out to violence or abuse.

We were talking about murders though. Everybody gets grief off strangers at some point. Men are like 4x more likely to be attacked by a stranger. It's very unlikely that this just happens without one side harassing the other first.

But let's not derail this thread. It's disrespectful which was the point of my original post about shoehorning in an agenda.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/03/2023 15:26

Men are like 4x more likely to be attacked by a stranger. another man.

Fixed that for you. Now please please stop minimising on a thread about a women being attacked and murdered by a man. NAMALT belongs somewhere else.

It's the worse fear I have. We send our children out into the world and there are predators and we have to hope for luck. Street harassment and threatening behaviour from men in the street started for me at 11, younger than my DD is. It only really became non-existent in my late 40s. Having to work out who is just a repulsive misogynist and who might be actually dangerous is exhausting.

RIP and love to the family. And so much sadness for the life that should have been.

Type as many words as you want to justify it but sexism is still sexism.

If my partner had been killed in a terror attack it would still be xenophobic to say Muslims are terrorists. I'm just sick of the casual bigotry on here.

Like that book 'I Hate Men' which everybody in feminist section was defending. Try and publish a book called 'I Hate Pakistanis' and see how far you get.

All that is required for these kind of mentalities to flourish is that people don't speak up. Given that 90% of women believe in equality but don't want to call themselves feminists I'd say that most disagree with you. Even in Sweden only 40% of women claim to be feminists nowadays.

Do you not see the irony of espousing your anti sexist beliefs while spouting sexist generalisations. Why shouldn't I call it out? It's not like I'd even have to if previous posters hadn't tried to shoehorn their agenda in here. All you do is turn decent men away and that doesn't help.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/03/2023 16:20

@AllDayBreakfast92 I've started a thread so you can debate NAMALT and similar. Please take it there and off this thread.
