Local Flasher - what to do?!

crabcakesalad · 11/08/2022 22:56

Locally there is a male flasher, has been at it, same location on-off for 5+ years. Reported to the police every time. Women having to vary there dog walking /running routes and it just goes on. The police do nothing. Half the local community think it's hilarious we have an active sec offender on our doorsteps.

So what can I do to get the police to actually do something?

Market town in the south east by any chance? We’ve got one of these. It makes me so angry.

Balliol1 · 11/08/2022 23:02

You need to check who your local MP is. If the MP is a member of the Labour party or a Liberal Democrat or some type of independent party then you need to ensure that at the next general election you are voting the Conservative candidate for your constituency. If you have a by election before that, even better.

No, small village in the midlands. It's so depressing there are more of these perverts around :(

How do you know the police aren't doing anything? Every reported incident will be used to build a picture and gather intelligence.
If they're not responding at all and not taking any statements, even a description over the phone, then ask to escalate via 101 quoting crime reference number(s).

PickAChew · 11/08/2022 23:09

Does your council have a neighbourhood team? Might be worth a prod.

No idea. I'll find out! Thanks

Well it's been a really long time of him doing exactly the same thing at the same exact location without a single response...

Local press? Police commissioner?

How do flashers get caught though I wonder - I'm not sure I've read any "flasher sentenced" stories in the local press. Small village makes it trickier in some ways (not much CCTV, though, maybe these days Ring doorbells etc?...) easier in some ways (limits suspect pool).

It's really shit though and I do hope they get stopped.

RoseslnTheHospital · 11/08/2022 23:13

The govt had funded Safer Streets initiatives, so it might be worth checking if your local council has got a grant for this and done anything with the money. Reporting an incident via a specific initiative might get more response, sadly.

MugginsOverEre · 11/08/2022 23:14

Big stick behind your back and whack the dirty fucker right in his nasty wrinkly bits? What's he going to do? Cry to the police that he was assaulted whilst committing a sexual offence?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 11/08/2022 23:16

Could do with some of the women wearing a go pro and capturing the dirty bugger on film, hard for anyone to deny it if it's caught on camera.

purpleme12 · 11/08/2022 23:18

If nothing's got done I'm going to assume there's not enough evidence ie CCTV and/or witnesses to each and every incident that's happened as sadly that's what's needed for something to happen

MrsGarethSouthgate · 11/08/2022 23:47

On the same day every week, at the same time and exact location? Because if not then you are being unreasonable to expect that the police have enough resources to be able to lie in wait in an authorised surveillance operation 24/7 ready for this man to offend again.

I have dealt with similar offences in an area where there are multiple different routes in and out of the area which are not fitted nor suitable for CCTV, and it literally is a guessing game as to when he will strike again. But every report adds a little more detail, and hopefully the day will come when he can be apprehended. Until then, keep reporting.

Taking a photograph of the male using your phone if the opportunity presents itself and it won’t put you in danger, this will help enormously. But if you don’t feel safe doing so then don’t, just report.

category12 · 12/08/2022 18:38

Get a local paper interested? The police will start doing something if there's bad publicity.

Scraggythang · 14/08/2022 14:43

Oh yes. We have a man who wanders around the town and shopping centre in small women’s/girl’s hot pants with his cock and balls hanging out the side and no one does a thing. Been doing it for a couple of years. There’s been various complaints made about him but nothing has happened. The shopping centre security think it’s hilarious. 😑

PrimAndProperViperish · 14/08/2022 15:19

Film it. Photograph it. Go in a large group, don't endanger yourself.

I'm thinking a sign that says 'Exhibitionist indulging his paraphilia' and worth remembering Sara Everard's killer also was a flasher before escalating.

GCAcademic · 14/08/2022 21:17

Urgh. I actually think that more depressing than the fact that these weirdos exist is that so many men find it funny. That actually really upsets me.

SquirrelSoShiny · 14/08/2022 21:25

I think the media needs to be reporting much more about how it's a behaviour that tends to escalate. Maybe then idiots would stop finding it funny.

Lavendersummer · 14/08/2022 21:32

Local paper, MP. Make a FOI request about what the police are doing. Speak to the local bishop. Basically make a fuss and get influential people involved

deydododatdodontdeydo · 15/08/2022 14:07

I'm not sure I've read any "flasher sentenced" stories in the local press.

I've seen many over the years in my local area. WY police too, so generally poorly regarded.
People do find flashers funny though, for some reason.

YellowandGreya · 16/08/2022 08:10

Don't endanger yourself by approaching him. Log the incidents and email log to all relevant authorities; MPs, police, council, women's centers, nspcc, neighborhood watch, residents association. Form a group and keep contacting authorities until they arrest him. It will be quite a lot of work but possible. Keep optimistic.

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 16/08/2022 18:45

Put up a feminist sticker. You and your offence will suddenly become top priority. Sorry I can’t think of anything to make the police take action on sex offences, though.

HermioneKipper · 17/08/2022 17:12

Disgusting. These men make me sick. I second the poster who suggested walloping the dirty bastard right in the bollocks with a massive stick. Or setting an aggressive dog on him perhaps

Ramblingnamechanger · 17/08/2022 21:01

These men nearly always escalate so try to get a photo if you can safely. Try the FOI as to why the police have not prosecuted. They know that it will escalate.
