This is how quickly Snag Tights are rolling over to males with kinks

Just had the misfortune to stumble across their social media. I work in the same field and was researching something and came across this little exchange .... I know MN are having paragraph issues so apologies if this is one long block of text!

Instagram user (male) .... could you remove the word 'women's' when referring to your tights? If we are wanting to be more inclusive, we could start there.'

Snag ... yes we absolutely agree! We will get this feedback sent over to the team. Thanks for the amazing feedback, we want everyone to feel included.'

They then go on to reassure another commenter called 'pretty fat boy' that they'll look into change all their packaging asap.

The world has gone quite mad hasn't it? And yes, I know men can wear tights. That's not my issue. My issue is these blokes with obvious kinks and fetishes requesting the word 'women' be erased to keep them happy.

Thoughts?

Gender stereotypes and gender ideology has bugger all to do with how my body is shaped. That influence goes the other way round.

And nobody is dismissing the sex based differences in all kinds of measures. That's called material reality.

And I've explained my personal take on it.

But all women are different? Tights are stretchy. Wouldn’t it be better to sell them in terms of leg length and waist, then ‘build’ size? I know women with longer legs than men, shorter legs than men, fatter legs than men, etc. my legs are more similar to my brothers than they are to my sisters. It’s not like it’s a fitted garment.

Ithinkitsadoughnut · 16/05/2022 19:24

Generally, I don't want to buy anything that's advertised with a man wearing it. If it fits a man, it's not going to fit me.

I’m not sure you understand how tights work.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 16/05/2022 19:49

Comparing this non issue to FGM is breathtakingly offensive.

Which only shows how little you actually take in of what you read!

FiveNineFive · 16/05/2022 19:51

Snag is a small company. They could not afford the amount of publicity mumsnet is currently giving them. Well done! Keep it up!😄

HardRockOwl · 16/05/2022 19:30

@RoseslnTheHospital thanks for getting what my objection is. 'Fat pretty boy' asks for the word 'women' to be removed. Company say ' ooh thanks so much for the amazing feedback. We are on it!'

It's a puzzle to me that some women are cool with this

Not sure what his weight or prettiness have to do with anything. I think Kleenex for men is ridiculous and have no qualms with wanting to remove the word ‘men’ being removed.

HardRockOwl · 16/05/2022 19:53

@Qwill it's his bloody user name!! Not my description of him

OP posts:
Fandabulous · 16/05/2022 19:53

My point is, snag want to sell tights. They don't care if they sell them to men or women. If someone gives feedback about how they can market their tights, it's entirely up to them what they do with that feedback.

There is no law that says tights are only for women. Men can wear tights too. If snag want to remove the word women from their ads based on customer feedback, that is their prerogative. If it was a period product, or a breastfeeding product, you might have a point. But its tights.

Now i remember why i avoid the feminism boards on Mumsnet. While other women are fighting for equal rights in the workplace, adequate maternity care, against harassment and abuse... Mumsnet cares very deeply about the marketing of tights.

NippyWoowoo · 16/05/2022 19:53

HardRockOwl · 16/05/2022 17:44

Oh I wouldn't buy their tights anyway. I'm not their target audience one bit. See also, Molke bras

My point was the way they just appease the fetishists at what I feel is ultimately the expense of women.

But I don't understand where you've gotten 'fetishist' from? What do you see when you look at them that screams that?

On one hand men shouldn't have to transition into women if they want to wear 'womens' clothing, they can just wear whatever they like but then when they do they're called fetishist.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 16/05/2022 19:54

😂its his username. And, sincerely, thank you for the laugh.

RoseslnTheHospital · 16/05/2022 19:54

@Qwill that was the man in question's social media account name "prettyfatboy" not a description decided on by the OP.

HardRockOwl · 16/05/2022 19:55

I'm actually LOL ing 😀

@NippyWoowoo what do I see? What, after looking at some of their social media accounts? (Briefly - I didn't loiter!)

I saw fetishists. Men with kinks. Men wearing pink ruffled 'panties'

Which is just more of that misrepresentation, and/or lack of actually reading what has been posted.

RoseslnTheHospital · 16/05/2022 19:57

@Fandabulous you are adhering to the fallacy that feminists can only think about one thing at a time. Surely you must be aware that women can discuss on a chat forum about fairly small and trivial examples of sexism whilst also actively campaigning for the urgent, serious and heavyweight issues affecting women.

Apologies, the way you wrote it didn’t look like a user name!

Wait are we looking at the wrong user? The person you quote asking them to change their wording is a woman

I don't see any evidence of the urgent, serious or heavyweight issues being addressed on Mumsnet. Just the same old echo chamber.

I've been on Mumsnet for years and used to be one of you in the echo chamber. Just before i get accused of being an MRA or whatever.

😂 thanks for the clarification! It just didn’t look like a username the way it was written. Glad I made you happy though, sometimes these kind of threads are pretty humourless!!

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 16/05/2022 20:00

OK!

HardRockOwl · 16/05/2022 20:01

@NippyWoowoo no, that user certainly isn't the one in pink pants! I shan't say the name on here but it's on there

I was hom humming the previous poster!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/05/2022 18:29

Ironically, I bet if they did remove all mention of the word women and rebranded themselves as selling rights for every body, male or female, then a lot of men would stop buying them...

Totally this. If they were "tights designed for male bodies" I bet they'd lose all sales to said bodies!

Antarcticant · 16/05/2022 20:02

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 16/05/2022 19:13

The price tag is actually cheap when you realise how long they last. They aren't just a good size they are bloody good quality too.

Mine are now going to have to last forever!

Yes, not denying the quality/value for money. But I get at least 6 months from Tesco 60 denier unless they get caught on something and ladder.

RoseslnTheHospital · 16/05/2022 20:04

@Fandabulous ah, you're also adhering to another fallacy, that feminists are only engaging in activism if it's being discussed on MN chat boards.

It's also possible for you to correct the bad feminists by starting threads on topics you feel need discussing, and keeping those threads alive. "Be the change" and all that.

TiraMissSue · 16/05/2022 20:05

Where are the social media campaigns to stop boxer shorts being marketed at men? Why aren’t we all talking about testicle-havers and beard-growers? Where is the uproar about ‘Gillette…the best a man can fucking well get’ ?

This isn’t about inclusivity or breaking down gender barriers or whatever guff it’s being disguised as. It’s plain old men bullying women.

Snag Tights can fuck right off.
