This is how quickly Snag Tights are rolling over to males with kinks

Just had the misfortune to stumble across their social media. I work in the same field and was researching something and came across this little exchange .... I know MN are having paragraph issues so apologies if this is one long block of text!

Instagram user (male) .... could you remove the word 'women's' when referring to your tights? If we are wanting to be more inclusive, we could start there.'

Snag ... yes we absolutely agree! We will get this feedback sent over to the team. Thanks for the amazing feedback, we want everyone to feel included.'

They then go on to reassure another commenter called 'pretty fat boy' that they'll look into change all their packaging asap.

The world has gone quite mad hasn't it? And yes, I know men can wear tights. That's not my issue. My issue is these blokes with obvious kinks and fetishes requesting the word 'women' be erased to keep them happy.

Thoughts?

Snags have a new group called Snags NSFW . Anything goes as long as Snags are included .

PlantSpider · 07/06/2022 04:22

Presumably the requesting the reference to women being removed is because they enjoy the dominance of making a request and being pandered to over the target market, along with a nice dollop of publically indulging their fetish via a customer service agent and social media - male pattern behaviour. When companies then obsequiously capitulate, those men will stop buying anyway because it’s not fun wearing items that are actually aimed at them vs belonging to women.

Meanwhile, their actual original customer base has gone elsewhere.

KatVonlabonk · 07/06/2022 08:03

Ray Blanchard is interesting on the psychology of this fetish and the role exhibitionism plays. Good of snag tights to support it....... shudder....

SarahJane03 · 26/03/2024 20:29

I am sad to say Snag are still promoting their products to men and women are supporting this.. I mistakenly posted my objection, (very gently!) on a FB page I am on - Dull Women's Club.. and got shot down.. I think Admin have removed my comments now.. I am saddened that there are so many handmaidens out there that support this nonsense.. (I did try to mention KJK and AGP but it fell on deaf ears.) Maybe the Dull Women's Club is too dull for me after all ;-)

KattyBoomBoom95 · 26/03/2024 21:54

I thought men were wearing tights centuries before women? It sounds like male history may have been erased.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 26/03/2024 22:05

Yes it's mad and the word amazing is overused.

KattyBoomBoom95 · 26/03/2024 22:44

If it's OK for boys to wear dresses then why not tights? #freethebudgie 🤣

KittenKong · 27/03/2024 08:43

When I was at school we had a ski club - the boys were advised to ‘borrow mums tights’ to wear under their salopettes. Don’t know if any actually did.

AdrianGreenwood · 05/10/2024 12:05

The reason why Snag are "rolling over" is because since the 1990's, less women are wearing tights and more men are wearing them, so a fair chunk of Snag customers are now men. Some tights retailers are reporting that up to 40% of their customers are now male so they will change their marketing strategy. You may have noticed that tights from other retailers like M&S no longer have the word "women" or "womens" on their tights packaging.
As for your assertions on male tights fetish, it is true that some men use tights as a sex toy, but there are also many men like myself who wear tights for the same reasons women do and love a new, fun item of clothing to add to our boring wardrobe.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/05/2022 18:29

Ironically, I bet if they did remove all mention of the word women and rebranded themselves as selling rights for every body, male or female, then a lot of men would stop buying them...

On the contrary, if clothing items are marketed as unisex that were previously assigned as female, men will feel more comfortable buying and wearing them.

Yes, because more men are buying and wearing tights so a lot of Snag customers are now male. It's not nonsense, tights were invented for men and worn by them exclusively in medieval Europe, they have just been out of fashion with us for a while!

So many asking for changes. Fucking brillinat.

And yet... I still have an issue with the removal of 'women' from many things.

I don't really care who wears what. I don't really care about much, expcet when a service, goods etc, have women removed from them.

And if you think that my referring to the woman who stood up to speak about FGM and got shouted down because she did not use inclusive language is crass - what do you think about he pople who tried to silence her? Or is that not the point because summink summink ?

For you I am devaluing her words - those she was allowed to say.

For me this is all part of the same issue. Women being silenced. Women not being allowed to stand up and speak about anything for women. Providers of goods and services being pressured, or only to happy, to become inclusive by removing words for women.

It is not the act of wearing the fucking tights. It is the assumption that everything has to be inclusive and that achieving inclusivity means removing 'women', never 'men'!

ROFL are you for real? Women over time have taken EVERYTHING from us men. Trousers, jeans, Doc Marten boots, suits shirts and ties, the kilt, etc etc etc. At the present time, men can no longer call anything exclusively "menswear", everything we have or had as been taken....and that includes tights which were menswear FIRST!

Mumsnet posters: Let Clothes be Clothes

I've never seen that demand on MN though. Most women recognise that women and men are a different shape. Less of an issue with super-stretchy tights, but definitely an issue with most other clothes. That's why women often express a wish that there were clothes with some of the attributes of men's clothes but made for women. That's not at all the same as saying 'Hey- stop marketing men's clothes as men's clothes!'.

To be honest, I think gendered clothing has been backwards for years. Men have external genitals because we need to keep them cooler than body temperature, logically this would be better achieved in a skirt or dress.
Women having mostly internal genitals don't suffer the crushing discomfort of trousers and shorts, nor do they have anything to get trapped in the zip, so therefore I think trousers and shorts are better suited to female anatomy.

They have been chasing this market for a while. They do know that 99% of their market are women don’t they?

Not true! Snag have a large male customer based. It seems more and more men are buying and wearing tights.

I couldn't care less that men want to wear Snags. More power to them, I couldn't care less that some men are wearing the same thing I am. Yesterday one of the staff in the cinema I went to was wearing a skirt. He was a bloke. It was a skirt, not a kilt. He looked great. It's clothes, whoever wants to wear them can wear them, nobody owns them. The tights work for men because of the way they have been designed to stretch. End of story.

I've just ordered some in new colours. Honestly, storm in a teacup. There are so many more major things to be outraged about.

newtlover · 08/10/2024 18:55

I remember years ago hearing that workmen (can't remember what trade) would wear tights under their overalls as an extra layer for warmth
makes sense, I don't really have a problem with that although it would mean men losing their natural advantage when it comes to wee-ing

I agree actually that women have successfully appropriated many 'masculine' clothing items, most significantly trousers, and this was not without struggle and resistance- but the women were never claiming to be men or that wearing trousers meant they were 'living as a man'- just that the clothes were practical/comfortable/stylish

I really do wish that men who quite understandably want to wear skirts or dresses would be as sensible and assertive as our foremothers were about trousers

I’m happy enough with it, considering it’s for a man whingeing on the feminist section of a woman’s forum about his tight wearing rights.

You do you. I think it's sad that people professing to be feminists still feel the need to own certain types of garments rather that focusing on actual serious things affecting women and girls. Tights are comfy, warm and practical and make a great base layer. Snag make tights that fit men and women both. Every time I see an anti Snag post here, I go and get another pair.

Knock yourself out. There’s something for everyone. I’ll ‘do me’ and get mine from a company that doesn’t denigrate its customer base and use fetish as a advertising angle 🤷‍♀️

OK, you have now lost me with your disgusting shallow judgement.

My point stands though.

If men want to wear tights - why not?
If people into kink - why not?

Wear whatever you want but hectoring women on a feminist forum is your worst look so far.
