Wtaf. I feel like there are daily stories coming out regarding hiw awful the Met are towards women.

"A woman who was pictured being arrested at the Sarah Everard vigil has said "about 50" police officers have since contacted her via a dating app, leaving her "terrified".

Patsy Stevenson, 28, said the officers approached her on Tinder after she was handcuffed at the vigil on 13 March.

She said they knew she was "fearful of police" and had done it "for a reason"."

WTAF? It just keeps getting worse.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/10/2021 13:34

Wasn't she the activist/actress? Does live action/inserts self into real events - can't remember what it is called?

Crisis Actor!! Brain gave it up in the end!

Or was that one of those weird smear campaigns? Maybe I should have read the article first - it's in there Smile

Either way... the poor bloody woman has become the walking embodiment of how much men hate/dehumanise women.

I hope she has names, times, dates and that Cressida Dick actually bothers to read them!

GCANDPROUD · 06/10/2021 15:28

Just saying… you can’t search for a specific person on tinder so it’s unlikely that this is entirely true unless she happens to live somewhere where most of the users are coppers. This is the woman who labelled herself ‘the face of the Sarah Everard vigil’. I’d take what she says with a pinch of salt.

andyoldlabour · 06/10/2021 15:47

"Ms Stevenson said she was not "anti-police" and had reported the threats, which are being investigated, though had not reported the dating app contacts."

Why didn't she report the dating app contacts, particularly as they were in uniform?

Plus she would also have to ‘like’ them for them to send messages to her, so that does seem weird, some people do choose to add their personal details eg phone number to their tinder profile, so she may have done that.
MyBeloved · 06/10/2021 15:51

Don't you have to accept someone on tinder to have contact with them? I know there are issues in the force, but this story is full of holes.

Shirleyphallus · 06/10/2021 15:52

Apparently she has tinder gold so she can see who swiped her

Even so, I find it a little far fetched that these officers swiped particularly for her personally with the link to Sarah everard and not just that she was a pretty girl on tinder

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/10/2021 15:52

Never having used any of the dating Apps I wouldn't know that.

Which takes me back to her being some kind of crisis actor and having to doubt her words - which I don't want to do.

But if the police, anyone, is to be brought to book, let it be for something they have done rather than something that sounds plausible... might benefit A N Other in ways I don't want to think about!

LaBellina · 06/10/2021 16:00

I was thinking the same thing, but then I realized that tinder has the super like option which lets you know that someone really wants to match with you. Without the super like you don’t know if the other user has ‘liked’ you unless you like them, so you swipe right and you match them because they have done the same thing. Perhaps the super like is what she meant by trying to contact her. Also, it’s not difficult to target someone on tinder if you know where they live or work and how old they are. You make sure their gender and age category is the kind of users you are searching for and that the area where they likely are is included in the distance you have set on the app (eg 15 mile radius if you know they live or work in a 14 mile radius from your location) and you keep swiping until you find them and send them a super like. It’s a bit of an effort but if someone knows your age and location it can be done.

A woman tells you she's received threatening messages, and your first reaction is to cast doubt on her story. Are you suggesting we only believe some women?

Ummm yeah. Are you suggesting that we believe everything someone says, even if it’s implausible, just because she’s a woman? This is someone who has made a career for herself out of a woman being murdered.
EdgeOfTheSky · 06/10/2021 16:13

She is a Sisters Uncut activist.

Their website says they ‘led’ the vigil, which is absolutely untrue.

I was at that vigil.

The police were originally completely unnecessarily heavy handed and moved in en masse before there was any disturbance. But Sisters Uncut changed a quiet, moving, respectful and resolute event into a noisy rally once dusk fell and the period of silence was over.

No. A something happened to a woman and there was a lot of ambiguity about it.

Now something else has happened and there is still ambiguity about it.

I don't do the blind acceptance of anyone's version of events, There has to be internal logic.

I didn't /don't follow the #Webelieveyou either. Absolutism has it's own issues!
userxx · 06/10/2021 16:16

Bucket load of salt needed.

Agreed, I was also at the vigil and sisters uncut changed the vibe absolutely and essentially took it over.. there's a lot about sisters uncut that is questionable when researching them (for example including trans women who had been convicted of raping women in the list of women who had been killed in police custody) unfortunately the police did behave badly at the vigil but I also suspect that is exactly what sisters uncut wanted!
CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/10/2021 16:20

She is a Sisters Uncut activist. Do we actually know that? I know it has been said, but I don't know if it is definitely true.

All I can see is that they were both there

She’s jumped this shark with this claim. The system doesn’t work the way she claims. Obviously trying to keep herself firmly in the limelight and doing it for self-promotion.

It’s infuriating when this happens as it feeds into the narrative that women are exaggerating men’s abusive behaviour.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 06/10/2021 16:23

She went live on tiktok a few months back and introduced herself as "the face of the Sarah Everard vigil".

Me and some others commented that Sarah was the face of the vigil and found her claim in poor taste and she stopped the live and deleted all her videos.

I struggle with her seeming to centre herself on something that isn't about her personally. This seems like an extention of that.

She gets paid for public speaking now I believe so needs to keep relevant.

Blech! We rightly condemn various politicians for various similar blatherings.

KittenKong · 06/10/2021 16:32

This one is a self-publicist extraordinaire. Not sure if I believe what she says.

VladmirsPoutine · 06/10/2021 16:35

Does she know how Tinder works?

Kinneddar · 06/10/2021 16:39

Are you suggesting we only believe some women

Well yes. You can't just blindly accept and not question something because a woman said it

In this instance there's a lot of her story that doesn't add up

Snookie00 · 06/10/2021 16:40

@VladmirsPoutine

Does she know how Tinder works?

Don’t think so and neither it appears does the BBC journalist who published this bullshit piece. Why when there are so many actual stories of men abusing women do they give any airtime to this self-promoting fantasist?
donquixotedelamancha · 06/10/2021 16:52

Are you suggesting we only believe some women?

Yes. We shouldn't believe women if what they say defies reality. I don't know how tinder works but if the statements upthread about it are true then her story doesn't seem possible.

Wow really? That's kind of sick.

I know nothing about dating apps so took the story at face value. Hopefully the police will look into the matter and get to the bottom of it, because if true it's really scary.
