If you have a partner, do you watch porn?

Interested to know other peoples views on watching porn when they have a partner...

OP posts:
Thelnebriati · 13/06/2021 12:50

No. My partner used to watch extreme porn and when he tried to get me involved in acting out what he was watching, it was one of the main factors that made me end the relationship.
It took him in a direction I wasn't interested in. It made me realise how deeply selfish he was and how incompatible we were as a couple.

DaisiesandButtercups · 13/06/2021 12:52

No.

PearPickingPorky · 13/06/2021 13:00

No.

guinnessguzzler · 13/06/2021 13:03

Having a partner or not doesn't come into it for me. I don't watch porn. It's highly damaging in many, many ways and entirely unnecessary so why would I want to engage with that? Anyone interested in smashing the capitalist patriarchy should be able to see that porn does the exact opposite. Of course, not everyone is interested in smashing the capitalist patriarchy.

AssassinatedBeauty · 13/06/2021 13:06

No, and whether or not I have a partner is not relevant to that.

Wanttocry · 13/06/2021 13:06

I don’t. But that’s because I don’t watch porn, not because I have a partner. For me the two aren’t related.

Susie477 · 13/06/2021 13:08

Yes, I have a partner and we sometimes watch porn together.

Porn is an interesting example of an industry in which women get paid significantly more than men for doing exactly the same job. Source: The Independent.

AdHominemNonSequitur · 13/06/2021 13:10

I used to. I have now stopped. It's too grim, too extreme and it's lazy. It also desensitises you.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 13/06/2021 13:30

No

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 13/06/2021 13:31

As others said I wouldn’t watch with or without a partner

Probably because there is no pleasure in the act for the woman and she's being hurt, risking injury, and being violently degraded.

That sort of thing usually requires danger money.
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/06/2021 13:33

No, and neither does my partner

Deliriumoftheendless · 13/06/2021 13:35

I had a partner for 11 years and I did not.

I do not now either.

I'm not interested in "smashing the capitalist patriarchy" . I don't watch porn. My partner doesn't watch porn. I have no truck with supporters of porn.
pastabakeee · 13/06/2021 13:47

If any of you have a spare mo type :

Ex porn star Jessie Rogers exposes shocking abuses of porn industry & tells her story.

Into YouTube and watch an incredibly brave woman speak from personal experience about what it's like to work in porn as a woman. Warning - you will be livid and heartbroken.

lazylinguist · 13/06/2021 13:51

No. I have no interest in watching it, and I am very against it because of the plight of many of the women involved in making it, the fact that it lines the pockets of highly dubious people, and the effects it has on men's expectations of sex from women and the way in which boys and men view women. And also I'm certainly interested in smashing the capitalist patriarchy. I expect dh has watched porn in the past, but I don't think he does these days (obviously nobody can be 100% sure). If I found myself single again, I would not knowingly date a porn user.

Lonel · 13/06/2021 13:55

No. Not now I have a partner and not when I didn't. Porn is disgusting.

NcagainNC · 13/06/2021 13:57

Yes and he does too

Siameasy · 13/06/2021 14:09

No never - last time I saw porn was in the days of VHS when someone put a video on for a joke at a party
Zero interest in ever watching it. I think it’s disgusting

SulisMinerva · 13/06/2021 14:16

Nope. My own imagination is more than sufficient.

SirVixofVixHall · 13/06/2021 14:27

No.
I have never watched porn and nor has my dh.

334bu · 13/06/2021 14:28

No. Why do you want to know?

Merchymor · 13/06/2021 14:31

Neither of us are interested so no.

HecatesCatsInFancyHats · 13/06/2021 15:32

Nope, because porn is exploitative and it degrades the social standing of all women. We only have to look at the OFSTED stats from last week that 9/10 school girls reported being on the receiving end of harassment (even from teachers in some cases), to see the pernicious influence it's having. One of the most popular search terms is in underage girls.

Oh, and then there's this:

"That supposedly “wholesome Pornhub” attracts 3.5 billionn visits a month, more thann Netflix, Yahoo or Amazon. Pornhub rakes in money from almost three billionn ad impressions a day. One rankingg_ lists Pornhub as the 10th-most-visited website in the world.
Yet there’s another side of the company: Its site is infested with rape videos. It monetizes child rapes, revenge pornography, spy cam videos of women showering, racist and misogynist content, and footage of women being asphyxiated in plastic bags. A search for “girls under18” (no space) or “14yo” leads in each case to more than 100,000 videos. Most aren’t of children being assaulted, but too many are."

Even the wife of the owner of porn hub thinks it's gone too far and she's benefited hugely from the money he makes:

"She has blogged about her own experiences of having photos shared online without consent a problem that Pornhub has long been plagued by and spoken out about how “sexualised women” are “dehumanised”."

I used to watch mostly woman on woman and oil-sex "romantic" massage videos and became somewhat addicted - i used it as a form of stress relief when anxious or depressed (having an orgasm can help with that lol). However I have stopped (still single though) after noticing lots of pop up adds offering more and more extreme porn choking/extra small teen/fake incest etc. and educating myself about what the ladies go through. Most of them seem to have suffered sexual abuse in childhood and need to be in therapy - not the porn industry.
