Noel Clarke sexual harassment allegations, suspended by BAFTA

www.theguardian.com/culture/2021/apr/29/actor-noel-clarke-accused-of-groping-harassment-and-bullying-by-20-women

🤬🤬🤬

Especially galling that BAFTA was seemingly made aware of this before giving him his very recent honour. I watched his acceptance speech and found it really moving in terms of celebrating a working class black man’s success in a historically white industry. Turns out he’s an (alleged) sexual abuser. Fucking great.

We are gutted to hear this in my household, he has always been a favourite of ours since his Doctor Who days. I have met him, with my son, and thought he was lovely. He was so encouraging of my son and we thought he was a great role model. His BAFTA speech made me quite emotional, we were so pleased for him at the time. Sad

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/04/2021 16:07

I’d says there’s much more than 20 victims for this call out to happen.

Oh shit! BIL and his wondrous friends have started. Apparently those women are 'ganging up' on NC, maybe he turned them down, for sex or an acting role. Apparently he is rich, famous and good looking enough to have whichever woman he wants - and any woman who says otherwise is a minger!

I would guess this wil be a well worn path for certain kinds of people, male and female alike!

And I told BIL he is a dick and has no idea what he is talking about - unless he has ever met NC or any of the women involved he knows fuck all! At least one of his friends has responded taking the piss out of him, I suppose I should be grateful for the one!

"I just read a story in this article, that I honestly remember being told by an actor friend around 10 years ago. I was sickened by it then, and I’m sickened by it now. Believe women."

Holly Matthews:

I was told the same stories too by an actress friend. Believe women when they say it. This shit was accepted.

Yep. There was a culture of that bullying back then by known producers and actors. Bad energy from them. I had a producer write a sex scene into the script AFTER he met me. Ugh it makes me cringe now. Absolute cretins.

Crikey! Has that ever happened before?
When totp presenters aren't shown it's normally after a proven wrongdoing...
I've read the investigation and believe it true but this makes me think that there's a lot more out there for such a swift removal from our screens.
He really has destroyed his career.

mabelandivy · 30/04/2021 16:09

Patrick Stewart?! I have a friend who works in theatre and he is a very rude and unpleasant man.

WhatyoutalkingaboutWillis · 30/04/2021 16:09

oops. Moved on rapidly

Butchyrestingface · 30/04/2021 16:10

Just saw this on Twitter.

Woke in the Street, Terf in the rap sheets”

Grin GrinGrin

boireannach · 30/04/2021 16:11

Very different response to this on Gransnet where it’s all about not believing women and blindly supporting men - especially it seems abusive men 😡

Maggiesfarm · 30/04/2021 16:11

I was quite gobsmacked to read this today. I don't know the man personally but he just didn't strike me as a sleaze.

Let's see what transpires. Accusations from twenty people is quite a lot.

Woke in the Street, Terf in the rap sheets

This is terrible. Who said this?

Stormer · 30/04/2021 16:14

@catmandont

I saw an interview with an actress from Viewpoint this week, Catherine Tyldsley I think, who said she'd lived on lettuce for a week as she was filming 3 sex scenes, then when she saw the final cut they weren't there, just one pretty tame one (if I remember, it was very quick, fully clothed on a sofa).

Thinking about that gave me the creeps today. Does he routinely write/film sex scenes he has no intention of using? 🤬

Again for the sake of clarity and accuracy:

Noel Clarke didn't write or direct or act as executive producer on Viewpoint although his production company did co-produce it, with Tiger Aspect (not his TV company) being the main producers. So he won't have had much - if any - say in the filming of sex scenes that don't involve him (which the ones involving Catherine Tyldsley won't have done).

It's not great though that it's an industry thing that happens: sex scenes filmed but not used.

Hopefully they are not going down the "well, if she WILL insist on wearing (fill in for yourself) what does she expect?" road. These poor men, how can they be expected to control themselves?! Angry

Really makes you realise how pervasive misogyny is, doesn't it. All sorts of seemingly-nice men treat women this way, not just the obviously bad guys. And all sorts of men look the other way and cover it up for them. Lots also sympathise with them when people eventually speak out.

I'll need to go back and check. It's about the NC case, so I believe a reference to the fact the he was belligerently super woke (eg, about trans rights) but unlikely to have been sending dick pics to any trans women.
Pinkearedcow · 30/04/2021 16:19

I'd bet my last bottle of gin that those 20 women aren't the only ones. Maybe more will feel empowered to speak out now. I hope so.

AnyFucker · 30/04/2021 16:23

My biggest disappointment would be Graham Linehan

CleverCatty · 30/04/2021 16:23

@MrsTerryPratchett

I saw the Patrick Stewart handing James Corden's arse to him on a plate at an awards ceremony

I love seeing this. Same as when Tony Benn gave Ali G shit for his sexist crap. Men who will actually stand up.

I'll try to find the video. James Corden is quite rightly horrified but defends himself to the hilt, as you would. Lots of rumours about Corden LOL.

Agreed - so great when other men or women for that matter stick up for and defend others who don't. gives me some hope at least.

CleverCatty · 30/04/2021 16:24

Seems to be lovely from what I've seen and heard - DBro works in film and TV worked with him and says he's lovely.
CleverCatty · 30/04/2021 16:28

@UppityPuppity

I saw the Patrick Stewart handing James Corden's arse to him on a plate at an awards ceremony and funnily enough my colleague who shares the same surname as Corden and used to live near him says she's seen him out and about (and introduced herself to him) and says he has a well known reputation as a bit of an arse.

I’m confused - who of the two has the reputation for being a bit of an arse? Please don’t let it be PS

James Corden rumoured to be a bit of an arse Wink
Stormer · 30/04/2021 16:31

I'm not a fan of James Corden but I think Patrick Stewart comes across as an arse in that video. I certainly don't regard it as him standing up for what's right.

But all this detracts from what this thread is about: the serious and many allegations against Noel Clarke.

BraveBananaBadge · 30/04/2021 16:32

James Corden's always popping up being an arse on Popbitch Grin

Clearly remember them reporting him doing the 'family in coach while he sits in first class' thing too

Elliania · 30/04/2021 16:34

It's interesting now looking back when Christopher Eccleston spoke about a toxic environment on Dr Who; with what's been alleged about Noel Clarke and also what's been said about John Barrowman's behaviour on multiple shows it really seems like he had a legitimate point.

Radio4Rocks · 30/04/2021 16:35

It's ridiculous to take off the final episode of Viewpoint tonight. So unfair on the other actors.

Complete over reaction.

If he did what the women said he did his career is over - why punish the other actors as well?

Pota2 · 30/04/2021 16:39

I’m just reading about the John Barrowman allegations and it’s pretty vile. Apparently he thinks getting his cock out on set and slapping it against female co-stars is funny. There’s been two instances where he has got his penis out on a live radio show. There’s also a video where Noel Clarke laughs about JB putting his penis on a woman’s shoulder and tapping it against other female colleagues. And Eve Myles was interviewed saying she thought JB was coming to give her a hug but he hit her 8 times on the head with his penis instead. What the FUCK. They all laugh about it, presumably because he is gay but omg how stomach turning. It’s absolutely vile.
