Noel Clarke sexual harassment allegations, suspended by BAFTA

🤬🤬🤬

Especially galling that BAFTA was seemingly made aware of this before giving him his very recent honour. I watched his acceptance speech and found it really moving in terms of celebrating a working class black man’s success in a historically white industry. Turns out he’s an (alleged) sexual abuser. Fucking great.

Seems to be lovely from what I've seen and heard - DBro works in film and TV worked with him and says he's lovely.

He wasn't 'lovely' in that video clip with James Corden. He was very publicly rather 'unlovely'. And I am NO JC fan. Shock

Roussette · 30/04/2021 16:44

There's a massive thread on Reddit, and it seems that the 20 women are really just the tip of the iceberg.
Many many speaking out.

alexdgr8 · 30/04/2021 16:44

i had no idea who this was, the name meant nothing to me.
but when i saw the face i did recognise it.
seemed a nice face but, he always seemed to be making kind of twisted expressions with his mouth, kind of curled lip, which looked horrible. makes the face look so ugly.
and not just in one character. i remember wondering why he did it.
could this be a form of psychological leakage, ie the true character peeping through the pleasant exterior. an unconscious tic ?

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 30/04/2021 16:45

@Stormer

I'm not a fan of James Corden but I think Patrick Stewart comes across as an arse in that video. I certainly don't regard it as him standing up for what's right.

But all this detracts from what this thread is about: the serious and many allegations against Noel Clarke.

I was looking forward to seeing this but I found Patrick Stuart very distasteful.

Feel like I'm in a parallel universe reading the comments on here.

Fucking grim. Hearing him speak in interviews, I’m shocked so many liked him because he comes across as a total pig. I didn’t really know who he was before this came out so had no views either way but his arrogance is obvious when he speaks.

ITV have pulled the final episode of Viewpoint tonight

@Pota2

I’m just reading about the John Barrowman allegations and it’s pretty vile. Apparently he thinks getting his cock out on set and slapping it against female co-stars is funny. There’s been two instances where he has got his penis out on a live radio show. There’s also a video where Noel Clarke laughs about JB putting his penis on a woman’s shoulder and tapping it against other female colleagues. And Eve Myles was interviewed saying she thought JB was coming to give her a hug but he hit her 8 times on the head with his penis instead. What the FUCK. They all laugh about it, presumably because he is gay but omg how stomach turning. It’s absolutely vile.
I’ve watched that video and I think the thing that upsets me most is the way they seem to be saying that because he’s gay, it’s acceptable. It paints all gay men in a very poor light that they’re all a bit pervy and whip their dicks out at any opportunity. The gay men I know would be appalled by that behaviour and would never do anything like that in a million years.
MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 30/04/2021 16:51

@MrsTerryPratchett

Another one.

DH and I like to play, "which man would you actually be surprised about at this point". It's a really fucking short list.

He has David Tennant and I'm keeping Patrick Stewart.

Please god not David Attenborough (I have heard he is a bit grumpy, but I can live with that). Or Michael Palin.

The Noel Clarke allegations make me feel simultaneously depressed and old. In my mind he's about 22 - how has he had time?

If that is true then that is sexual assault. Why does his sexuality make that OK?
ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 30/04/2021 16:53

@MorrisZapp

I'm still reeling from Justin Lee Collins, the cuddliest, most self effacing man to appear on telly. The court found that he had controlled his girlfriend to the point of making her sleep facing him, and she wasn't allowed to look up off the floor in pubs.

Nothing on telly is real, just nothing.

But OK, Adam Hills. If he's vile to women I'll be actually let down.

Yes, I remember being so shocked by the Justin Lee Collins court case. Seemed so warm and lovely. Anything but! TV personalities really are an illusion.

@VladmirsPoutine

Woke in the Street, Terf in the rap sheets

This is terrible. Who said this?

I don't know what that means

He hasn't been found guilty yet! You might as well watch it if you are enjoying the series. If at a later date we find out all the allegations (& there are quite a few), are true, just don't watch any more of him.

I put last night's on, on catch up because I was up late but then went to sleep on the sofa. I'll try to see it in a bit.

southeastdweller · 30/04/2021 16:54

One of his co-stars on Viewpoint, Alexandra Roach, has tweeted her support for the 20 women.

Piggywaspushed · 30/04/2021 16:56

I am so glad you said that mrsrobinson. I am on that thread and will bow out of it because am astonished.

reesewithoutaspoon · 30/04/2021 16:58

The whole industry is rotten to the core. I have an acquaintance (through a friend of mine) and he was in TV production, so loads of people in the industry on his social media and every time one of these expose 's happen none of them seem in the least bit surprised, they have all been complicit in covering this up for years, or just accepting it as par for the course.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 30/04/2021 17:00
So, Ashley Walters, who has known and worked with him for years, says the stories were a ‘shock’ Hmm

www.google.com/amp/s/news.sky.com/story/amp/sky-halts-noel-clarkes-involvement-in-any-future-productions-following-sexual-harassment-claims-12291076
Yes, and Ashley Waters also said that the accusations were because the accusers didn't like to see a strong, successful POC.

And bravo to The Guardian for publishing this.

I am amused by the posters saying 'oooh, I'm surprised by these allegations; I really liked him in [x]'. It's a huge mistake to think that an actor is the same in a role as in real life.

Stormer · 30/04/2021 17:00

Thanks for the link @MrsRobinsonsHandprints to the MN tv thread: yes parallel universe indeed...

But as I said in my first post on this thread, I was dismayed at the same sort of reaction and thought process by a couple of MN posters on the Higher Ed board about some sexist behaviour by students. And a PP on here said the comments on Gransnet are also a parallel universe. It's so bloody depressing to see how many women have ingrained sexist/misogynistic views and attitudes.

Piggywaspushed · 30/04/2021 17:02

As a side note, why does Michael Jackson music still get played on the radio and why is he still shown on old TOTPs?

Roussette · 30/04/2021 17:02

That thread you linked is gone

Everyone knew about Kevin Spacey too. The people/companies who dropped him after it all came out are gross hypocrites. They were perfectly happy to profit from his work, despite knowing how dodgy he was, until he became publicly tainted.

I don't agree with pulling films or a TV series when scandals come out, because it punishes everyone else involved as well. It's the equivalent of me responding to gross misconduct by one of my employees by sacking the entire team.

Maggiesfarm · 30/04/2021 17:04

@Piggywaspushed

As a side note, why does Michael Jackson music still get played on the radio and why is he still shown on old TOTPs?
Because he was a very talented performer, much maligned, and a target for people wanting to extort money from him.
AlfonsoTheTerrible · 30/04/2021 17:04

Apologies - it wasn't Ashley Walters but "a female friend" of Noel Clarke. My apologies to Mr Walters for the mistake.

Pota2 · 30/04/2021 17:04

I think they believe he’s ‘safe’ because he’s gay or maybe they don’t want to be labelled homophobes or something.

Here is some stuff on it:

honeylulu · 30/04/2021 17:05

Was pretty stunned at this. I as watching last night's Viewpoint and scrolling on phone during adverts when the breaking news about the NC allegations came up. I doubt very much it is smoke without fire - 20 women! And the stories on here too...

I have been enjoying Viewpoint and it does seem a bit extreme to pull it just before the final episode but I think ITV would be hauled over the coals if they didn't. For info: the final episode will be on ITV Hub from tonight until the end of Sunday, after which the whole series will be no longer available. I think this is the right decision as those who want to see the ending can seek it out, but no one who thinks NC should not be on prime time TV will stumble across it.

spongedog · 30/04/2021 17:05

@BoreOfWhabylon

His agent and his management company have dumped him too.
I cant believe that they were not aware. After all with Jimmy Saville - most of the men around him knew - because they saw - and refused to do anything. I wish we could also get these hangers on. They facilitate.
