Folic acid and depression - anecdotal

I recently found I was low in folate and have started supplementing folic acid. This comes after starting similar for B12, I noticed feeling better with the B12 but I have noticed an improvement in my mood again since taking the folic acid. I wasn't really depressed before but, it's hard to explain, I feel more happiness and optimism at the moment.

I understand this could be totally coincidental or a placebo effect but I am thinking there is something "real" going on here.

This has got me thinking about folic acid and PND. A lot of women supplement folic acid in the run up and during pregnancy as we are advised to and I imagine many stop supplmentation post birth. Very unscientifically wondering if this drop in folic acid could contribute to PND. Anyone know if any studies have been run on this?

Yes I think low folic acid and B vits are strongly linked with depression, would seem sensible to thik that it could contribute to PND in the way that you described.
Glad you are feelin better a strong good quality B vit complex, multi vit and high strength vit C are all great for depression.

Thank you topsi - very interesting. Seems my anecdotal fits in with some research out there.
