Was prescribed it earlier but already worried about the weight gain. I can't see anyone (via google) who hasn't gained weight while on it.

Me! Me! I've been on it for just over a year now.

I probably gained 2-3 lbs in the early months, but like all side effects the appetite thing settled down and I easily lost the weight again and am back down to my normal weight

You may find it makes you very sleepy too for the first few weeks. This was brilliant for me as I had insomnia before.

Apart from that I had no side effects at all, and it's generally been good for my anxiety and low mood.

Hope it helps you, post again if you want to know anything else..

MitchyInge · 14/06/2010 19:54

It was not much good for me (but bipolar) didn't gain weight though - can't remember how long I took it for.

SagacityNell · 14/06/2010 19:56

Thats partly why i am on this particular one - i am barely sleeping and its to stimulate my appetite. Anorexia.

What are the side effects like?

What dose have you been prescribed?

If poor appetite and poor sleep is you, sounds like mirtazpine will be a very good choice for you.

SagacityNell · 14/06/2010 20:03

FOr 3 weeks 15mg but going to 30 after that.

Also hard to OD on it apparently, which is also good at the moment.

Got to go for bloods tomorrow - if i take one tonight will that affect it? WOndering if i should wait until tomorrow to start them? And kind of procrastinating.

It shouldn't affect a blood test, but you may find if you take one tonight you will be very drowsy tomorrow. If you have to drive, I'd leave it till tomorrow, but if you can walk to get your bloods done then maybe start them tonight.

The sooner the better, for getting well

SagacityNell · 14/06/2010 20:52

I can't drive so thats no bother.

Not impressed that i can't drink though

ive been on this for over 3 years and trying to come off - got down from 45mg to 30mg - i have put on shed load of weight but its my choice to keep putting crap in my mouth when hungry - when you get the pangs just try low fat stuff.

lelarose · 15/06/2010 14:47

I was on mitrazapine for years, yes it did make me out on a bit of weight but its the only anti dperessant that ever helped me with chronic insomnia.

SagacityNell · 15/06/2010 19:15

Been SO tired today.

Did the side effects last long? or will they go away quite soon?

hey op - had two courses of mirtazipine - no weight gain on either. did make me a bit ratty in the mornings though but generally it was quite helpful esp if you cant sleep because you can takei t at night

SagacityNell · 16/06/2010 09:59

This is going to be really hard :/

I have already binged which made me make myself sick (I have EDs), I am sleeping which i guess is a bonus BUT the nightmares that i normally have if and when i sleep, i am not able to wake from and I feel a bit 'out of it' during the day.

candyfluff · 16/06/2010 22:29

sorry to hear you are finding it hard but the tiredness does wear off and you will get used to them you have to give them a chance 6 weeks really before you can really make sure they are working and they will agree with you.
the thing is you have to decide which is more important your mental health or your weight - i know i picked the right one xx

FlameOverThinks · 17/06/2010 07:44

But for SN her mental health and her weight are all intertwined

I desperately want these pills to work for you, but at the same time I am worrying about you.

With the binging etc (sorry if tmi) was it long enough after the pill to keep it down?

I'm thinking - 6 weeks. I know it seems a lifetime, but think how quickly things like the first 6 weeks with a newborn go.

Try to get through the six weeks.

I won't ask you not to purge - we're tackling one thing at a time here, but I will say, do it far enough after the pill so it still stays in your system.

If you want, you can come up with something for me to do for 6 weeks that will be hard for me, so we can do this together. How's that for a deal?

SagacityNell · 17/06/2010 11:03

candyfluff - if i wait 6 weeks i will be worse now than i was before.
If i had to choose - its not really a choice. weight every time.

candyfluff · 17/06/2010 20:03

im sorry i didnt realise you had a eating disorder - must try and take more attention.
how are you feeling today?

FlameOverThinks · 18/06/2010 13:00

You want me to do a 6 weeks of something? Can attempt not being psychotic

GetDownYouWillFall · 20/06/2010 10:05

How's things now SagacityNell?

SagacityNell · 20/06/2010 21:15

I'm still tired but I am sleeping all thru the night now which i didn't before. Having said that, I am not waking when the DCs need me (DS2 has night terrors and DH doesn't even wake when i kick him in the nuts for snoring)

I am bloated which isn't helping at all.

Not liking no alcohol v much either and i was by no means an alcoholic before.

I have discovered my "best time" to take them though so thats good. And i actually got off my arse and did some housework today but that could be more to the dextro-energy things i have been having
