I became mentally ill a few months ago. im better now and did not have treatment but am now really frightened by what happened to me. Id like to see a psychiatrist privately to discuss what happened and think about whether there is a risk of recurrence. However because of my job I dont want this on my GP records just now in case of future occupational health screening.
Has anyone been to the priory? How do I access it and how much can I expect to pay for say two hours of a consultant pschiatrists time?

You would usually need a GP referral to access care.

I saw a consultant at the Priory in Woking, and she charged £450 for an initial appt (lasted an hour or so). Her follow up appts were cheaper but I can't remember how much (this was 2007). CBT was about £80 a session IIRC.

The fact you got better on your own is very positive - presumably without medication?
Was it triggered by anything in particular, that you could watch out for in future?

You could have a look at the Priory Website

Sorry that you are worried about going to the GP for fear of it being on your records. It makes me that people feel they cannot access the help they need on the NHS because of this reason.

Hi, I just went to the Priory in Roehampton last week and they were great. I was suffering some serious PPD and my GP was useless. Just said "take prosac". I knew I needed to see a MD psychitarist and couldn't wait for the NHS. I just called the general help line on the website, told them my symptoms and then they recommended Dr. Spiers. I saw her last week and she diagnosed me with obessive intrusive disorder. It was 300quid for 1 1/2 hours. I am seeing someone else as a follow up but not sure what it will cost. Will need to eat soup for the next three months but totally worth it. She was great...
