Citalopram

I had panic attacks when I was much younger - haven't had one for years.
Just lately I've been under a lot of pressure and have had a couple of panic attacks which I've managed to get over fairly quickly without having to take anything.
This morning I was quite unwell and phoned the surgery. Got an appointment - 5 minutes in and out and a prescription for Citalopram.
No advice about how to cope with the problems that have led to the panic attacks or how to deal with the panic attacks themselves.
Do they just dish it out and that's that?

Hi there
I was prescribed citalopram just over a year ago (I'm still on it). It is for PND and PTSD but one of my symptoms was panic attacks and high levels of anxiety. I was referred for counselling as well which did help.

I suppose it depends on what the reasons for taking it are but it does seem a bit worrying that you just have the prescription. Might be worth making another appointment with your GP to discuss further.

Good Luck and hopefully the citalopram will work. It worked brilliantly for me and got rid of the the panicky feelings completely.

I couldn't believe it - he just gave me a month's supply - no follow up appointment - nothing.

How long did it take to kick in?

It took about 2 weeks to kick in

I have been on Citralopram for 8 days now. The first 2 days I had awful stomach upsets. I have felt great and full of energy until today and I am very tired, edgy and keep grinding my teeth. My stomach is churning and I don't feel great. I will carry on for a month if there is no change I will stop as I can't stand this feeling.

Has anybody had similiar feelings and did it pass.

I've just started taking it again for anxiety, I took it for about 18 months before and it worked really well for me. One of the side effects initially is more anxiety but it will pass, there's a users guide to citalopram at no more panic which is really helpful and worth a look. You should go back to the docs after 4 weeks to review your dose.
