Was prescribed Trazodone yesterday as I'm having trouble sleeping after losing my mum and then a baby. Am only taking 50mg, and have to take it half an hour before bed, but I can't seem to wake up today. Am feeling very heavy!
Is this normal? The doctor said that my sleep would get worse for three or four days but to persevere, but I slept really well last night for the first time in weeks

Would love to hear about anyone elses experience, thanks.

mbm big hug. I have sleep problems too but not taking anything. I have no advice but there are lots of people here who are very wise about these things xxxx

Very normal. I started taking it for anxiety last year and I trotted home from the doctors, took one pill and practically passed out
It knocked me out like a light. I started on a 150mg dose and went up to 300 before stopping. It was a fabulous med for me, as being able to sleep made such a difference to being able to deal with everything else. I did feel very groggy the next day though, but I didn;t really notice until I stopped just how bad it had gotten tbh. Now I don't take them anymore I am much more alert.
SO do persevere, and sorry about your losses

smallishsheep It's amazed me how strong it is, and I'm only on a tiny dose. How on earth did you manage to do anything on 300mg ?
Can I ask how long you took them for? Also, did you have any side effects other than groggyness? I have been feeling a bit sick this afternoon and have a horrible taste in my mouth...
Did it help with your anxiety? I really hope things are going better for you now.

Becky Another hug for you, you will get through this and start feeling better soon xxx

I took them for 4 or 5 months. I was worried about coming off them, but had no trouble at all.
I was on them for extreme anxiety. By the time I went to my GP I literally felt on edge all the time, I had a constantly racing heart, and a permanent feeling of dread. Horrid, horrid time in my life
I am so much better now. It is debilitating to have that much anxiety, and also to never sleep. The fact that I was able to have a full nights sleep made a big difference. They made me feel more able to cope somehow. Before I went on meds, I was very sceptical as to how a pill can make that much of a difference, but for me they really did.
I had a dry mouth for the first week or so. I had to take mine when I was already in bed ready to sleep because I would be out like a light in under 10 minutes. If I wasn't lying down and pretty still they made me a bit nauseaus as well.
On balance, I couldn't have coped without them. I went on citalopram for a small time before they were prescribed, but that actually made my anxiety worse.
