hi

i have been having hallucinations for the past twelve months now and only on waking up. i will open my eyes and i will see spiders or insects running over my ceilings or walls, they move as they would if they were real. and it always seems to be spiders or insects and even spiders webs. i know they are not real but wondered if anyone else has had this experience. i have been told it has a name but cant remember what and that people who have it all see spiders.

i have no fear of spiders but i find it strange how it appears so real.

anyone else having this please let me know
thanks

It happens to me when I am stressed.
It is like watching a film playing out in front of me.

I've even tried to catch them, wake dh up to show him.....and empty hand

You're not alone

I think what you might be experiencing is called hypnogogic dreams (though am no doctor!). I have a friend who had this, and it did happen more often when she was stressed.

They are called hypnopompic hallucinations (hypnogogic are when you falling asleep).

They are supposed to happen because your brain wakes up in stages and some bits lag behind causing the hallucinations.

They are quite common and usually happen in healthy people.

My DH gets them, sometimes spiders etc but more commonly flooding/water. They always seem to happen when he is tired or stressed.

alibabs I get these ALL the time..I see spiders hanging down from the ceiling towards my face and they look so real, but I'm not even sure if my eyes are open.

I've seen ghosts floating around in my room too, that realy put the willies up me. Then I concentrate really hard and realise I am seeing things. But its scary when it happens.

thanks for that everyone, i did think i was losing my mind.

i have them most days and only on waking, i had one this morning which was shaped like an octopus (very strange) but makes a change from spiders and bugs.

thanks for putting my mind at rest
