I have just got an appointment at the doc's tomorrow to tell about how low and suicidal i'm feeling. I just don't know what to say to him tho when I get there. I'm going to feel like such an idiot.

Hello chyla - You will not feel like an idiot, they are trained professionals who deal with this - they will drew out of you how you are feeling! Have you thought about what you want to express to your dr? Have you said it out loud yet how you are feeling?

I know what I want to tell him. I just want to let everything thats bothering me out in the open but I know I wont be able to do that. I will just freeze and clam up, i know I will

Hi - write it down and take that with you so you can check you don't miss anything out - or if you really can't say all the things you want give the doctor the notes with what you wanted to say. I'm sure that will help both of you to understand the problems. Good luck.

try writing some things down. maybe do a list of good/bad days/events and look through your diary to work out when you started feeling like this, and whether you feel worse in the morning/at night. and say when you go in "I've written a few things down so I don't forget them". depression is incredibly common so they will be well used to drawing info out of people about themselves and their state of mind. xx

i felt liek you when i was pg with jess... i had weekly appointments with my doc, the first time i saw her, i just cried.... couldnt get anything out. From then on, i had weekly homework of writing down what was bothering me and when and at the appointment we would go through each issue together - was fantastic and didnt need ad's!

Don't know if you've read my other thread (going to have a good week), but I couldn't make the appointment - had to write a letter to the dr and the dr then rang me to go in. Now you've made a really brave move by making the appointment - you should be proud of yourself - but perhaps scribble down what you want to say beforehand so if you clam up you can refer to it. I am a fine one to talk, I clammed up immediately but becasue she had read the letter she knew a foundation to get me to talk (well she tried) but I do know how the stress and anxiety makes you freeze. You've got time to make a few notes, being honest with yourself and you can say what you like if its only you going to read it and just refer to it if you need to.

Chyla - It is daunting and writing it down is a great idea. With my first appointment I wanted the GP to realise how bad I felt, but then I didn't want her to think I was a lunatic. Thankfully I didn't have to say much at all.... I just opened with the line:
"I feel like a fraud as I'm not feeling down at the moment.... but I think, no I KNOW I have PND". She nodded and asked questions, from then on I just answered her questions. It was so nice to be taken seriously and not be treated like a fool.
Well done for making the appointment.... thats the first step to NOT feeling like anymore.

I've been there and its so frightening to have those thoughts in your head. But, thankfully, I recovered. And you will too.

Hi, It ended up being cancelled as doctor was off ill, so I was thinking of going to the Brook Centre but not sure if they are the type of ppl who can help me deal with this?

Oh dear Chyla, thats really tough for you - got all psyched up and now cancelled. What is the Brook Centre???? Did you not reschedule with your GP?

tbh i dont know what the brook deals with but it might be worth checking if they have a website or giving them a call?

make another doctors appointment and dont give up!

youve made the first steps and that shows alot of strengh inside you, you can do it!

give them a call first thing on monday and ask for an emergency appointment.

What Get Connected Does

Get Connected is a free, UK wide, email and telephone helpline that finds young people the best help whatever the problem.

aww thanks you guys for all that information! I will phone to reschedule on Monday. I could have seen an agency doc on Friday but would rather talk to my own doctor as I like her, but as I have 3 interviews next week (yes 3!!!) I will have to reschedule inbetween them. I am feeling positive today but my mood could change at any point. Thanks again for all your help! Very much appreciated xxx
