anx been given AD to take

Hi i suffer with health anxiety and doc wants me to try clipromal i think its called , worried about poss side effects ?anyone advise .

I took ADs for about 2 yrs for health anxiety. They really, really helped. I never had any noticeable side effects at the time, although having come off them I have realised that I put on weight.

I took me 3 tries to find one that really worked for me - fluoextine. So if this doesn't help don't dispair and keep trying.

I have to say, any side effects of the ADs were infinitely preferable to the chronic anxiety.

You should also be aware that ADs can take several weeks to kick in, so it may take you a while to feel better.

thanks , Dh not keen and my friends ,but i think they may help ...i just want to feel normal ...i go a while fine then something will trigger it and im out of control ..anx , cant stop crying at moment ...i hate it ..i hate me being like this ..iv a fantastic DH 2 fantastic children but i feel like this most of the time grrrrrrrrrr sorry for rant ..

how are you now and do you still suffer HA ?

At the moment I am fine and find that the anxiety is very low level - no compulsion to rush and check everything out. I am sure it will come back again at some point, but I now know that I can deal with it.

Unless you suffer from anxiety, you have no idea what it is like so I would not listen to advice from your dh and your friends. Listen to the doctor and what you want to do and go from there.

The ADs have improved my life immeasurably. If they don't work for you, you can always stop taking them!

calmed down a bit now ... been to work chatted to others ..thanks for advice , i hate this ....when dod your anx start mine was 3 years ago with tummy bug then thought i had B C as didnt get better but turns out IBS and anxiety based ...still bad now but i think that was my trigger that sent me into fear and terror and not its just one thing after another ...i get over one thing and then manifest another and it goes on....

what other things do you do to help your anx ?

It started for me about 7 years ago - over something so small it seems stupid now. I will not set out all the terrible things it has dragged me through over the past 7 years as it just sounds daft. However, 2 years ago it reached a complete crisis where I just could not live with the anxiety any more and rang the GP sobbing.

A few things help - I have totally banned myself from looking things up on the internet. I always ask dh if he would be worried about such and such if he were in my position. I also immediately try and focus on something else if I start to obsess about something. It can be managed but you do have to try hard.

all sound similar ....i must admit i do google ...which is the worst but at times of anx i cant help myself some how ..but must not as all soooo bad ..

im going to try yoga as thats ment to be good i did a body balance class week which was good to but felf to anxtious to do it this week ...should have made myself as would have broke my worry cycle i think ..

distraction is the key i think to , to much mind talk not good ...

doc said i have to learn a way to when i get like this to go down the more rational pat and not let myself get lead down anx ,extream path as this is what i do and the only way i can stop is to seek reasurance , which as you prob know only lasts a wile till the next thing comes along ..

Absloutely ban yourself from Google. You will know from your own experience that you can self diagnose with absolutely anything and most symptoms fit most diseases.

I saw a psychiatrist for 18 months and he too was keen on learning a different way of thinking. He described it as living more in the moment. Instead of following all my aches and pains to their non-logical and future conclusions, I should instead focus on just now and worry about future things when they happen. I do manage this to a degree now, but not completely. I have to say though that were it not for the ADs, I would never have had the perspective to be able to consider things in a more rational way.

interesting , i eally never realised ust how powerful the mind can be till all this anx things came about .
my sister ften says things like that to me to try and get me to keep perspective , like dont meet things half way wait till it comes to you then deal with it ..
sounds simple when you say it like that .. if only ..

i am at moment in current halth anx about an issue of which im trying to keep in check and not go dow the worse case senario but its REALLY REALLY hard ...

self checking being a big one and rushing to doc ... hav given myself to weekend to see if things ,worse or better then will decide action to take and for me thats prity good ...but thats now and hope will stay strong for rest of week ..

Sorry - had to go and do some other stuff for a while. I find that if I go to the Drs now as soon as I start to worry it helps and stops things building up into a huge issue.

Have you started to take the ADs?
