prozac and weight gain?????

Was wondering if someone could please shed some light on this for me. I was prescribed prozac 20mg for anxiety, mild depression that i'd had for ages and not dealt with about 5 months ago. Anyway to start with the ad's made me loose my appetite however now they seem to be making me bigger and bigger. I'd say since april i've march i've noticed my clothes feeling tighter and recently gone up a jeans size, now they are starting to feel uncomfortable too. Is this normal? i wouldn't say i'm eating excessively, i always try to watch what i eat and aim to do 20-30 mins cardio a day - so what the hell is going on??? i mentioned it to my doctor who said that prozac should not be coursing my weight gain, but i'm not convinced.

Anyaway i'm slowly starting to come off them over the next 2 mths, so i'm hoping so i'll start to see a difference.

Would love to hear other peoples experiences? did you gain weight? and did you loose it once the tablets stopped?

I took antidepressants a few years ago and gained a large amount of weight in a small space of time. I spoke to my doctor and she said the tablets cause an increase in appetite so it's not actually the tablets that cause the weight gain it's the extra food. The weight did come off once I stopped taking them but it didn't just drop off, I had to work at it. HTH
