No slaps or shaking required then. Had any lunch? Stuff always worse when you're hungry. Deep breath and then outside for some fresh air - get down the park/shops/round the block/wherever but get walking. Go and buy yourself some sweets, sit in the sunshine (if you got it where you are)What really important things do you ahve to do today?

MuffinBaker · 20/04/2009 13:40

Can't go out as DS in bed.
Have had lunch for once.
Just feel drained and so annoyed with myself that I can't snap out of this mood.

Open back or front door (or just a window) then and just sit outside, breath deeply, calm your mind, focus on the warmth of the sun and just think nice calm thoughts for 10 minutes. Switch off. After 10 minutes, make a cup of tea, sit down and write everything down that you have to do. Then divide it up between stuff you absolutely have to do today, stuff you should do today (but can wait until tomorrow) and stuff that can wait for longer. Plan something nice to do when DS wakes up. Then put today's tasks in any sort of order and set out to achieve them one at a time, as slowly as is required. Achieving any of them should be celebrated. Have another cup of tea/biscuit/big hug with DS/chat with friend/whatever else will make you happy. Then onto the next one...

I've had issues with anxiety and depression and at times when everything gets on top of you you just have to do things one step at a time and make sure that you have little things to look forward to as you go. Don't set too many targets for yourself if you are having a bad day, they just give you excuses to beat yourself up more.

It is so stupid but I find the thought of doing a list just overwhelming as it would be huge and never be finished.

I am tidying the lounge at the minute and just want to go to sleep.

Which is why you need to take 10 minutes, calm down, get some fresh air, a new perspective, and then make the list. At the moment the thought of what you "have" to do is suffocating but when you can get a minute to think about it rationally you will see that not all thet stuff HAS to be done today. Your mood, and negative thought patterns associated with it are telling you that you can't do it, you're too busy, you'll never manage it etc etc etc. Well, no you probably wont manage everything today, you are not superwoman. But you can do a few things. You can do the most important 3 things for example. And then after that maybe you can think about doing a few more.

Now put that cushion down and get outside....

I am doing my list tmw.

I can't sort out the big stuff right now so I will try and start with the little stuff.
