mirtazapine takers?

came off these about a month or so ago and got really ill again so have gone back on them tonight will be my third dose about an hour after i have taken it i feel very strange and shake all over my body and find it very hard to control this strange sensation ,i dont remeber this when i had them the first time around? it does stop after a while but now im not looking forward to tonights dose because of this weird feeling . has anyone else had this or any other side affects the only other thing i have is a dry mouth which i dont mind

i felt really really tired and a bit spaced out and incredibly hungry - if it wasn't nailed down i would eat it

what dose are you one now and what were you on before?

was on 30mg at the height of the bad times and then down to 15mg .now im on 15mg to start off with increasing to 30mg after a week .went to bed early ahd had a great nights sleep and no werid feelings this time.main thing is the weight gain which i why i came off it a month ago but id rather be fat and happy than have depression its awful i hate every lowly minute of it.

i know it's horrible and impossible to explain ....... but they tell me it gets better .

Mine was combined with fluoxetine but i think you can go up to 40mg if you still aren't feeling good

I'm not on them now so i miss the wonderful sleep they gave me aaaaaaahhhhhhhh (on lithium therapy now)

ps i was always told to take them no more than 30 minutes before bed - poss try that and then if you do get the shakey thing you'll be asleep - apparently it can be used for pre med too -

do take them just b4 bed time they noirmally give me the deepest sleep id ever had i mean i could be burgled and not even wake up.so tell me your story we all have one dont we

childhood with unsupportive alcholic mum. I always worried about the mortgage and bills being paid from the age of about 12. She wouldn't turn up for anything, not even to collect me from a trip abroad at 16 - had pnd after ds was born but was sooooooooooo ashamed and scared i didn't tell anyone - got so bad i drove to the cliffs once. Had dd and was struggling so midwife got gp to come out and see me. she put me on citalopram. i worked my way up the doses, then went to venlafaxine and went up the doses. Had cbt and went to group with occupational therapits. Started fluoxetine and then combined with mirtazapine. then stopped mirtazapine and started lithium

i can't explain why i'm still ill. Apparently it's treatment resistant clinical depression and ocd - i hate it

i was fine and very happy positive until i had my 2nd child i had post natal depression from when she was born although i didnt know then what it was i just felt so ill and anxious all the time i went to the gp so many times and tried a few different anti depressents none of which helped me i got so bad i was suicidal by the time she was 18 months i got more help then and saw the mental health team who let me talk everything through and put me on some new tablets lofepramine which worked for me i was on them a year and a half came off them and was fine until winter and a return of my symtoms i was diagnosed with s.a.d winter depression and have had it ever since its the pitts!!! . had another baby which now looking back wasnt one of my best ideas and got very bad post natal depression again although this time didnt have any suicidal thoughts thankgod .i had lots of support this time round a cpn and a home start volenteer. was on hormone replacement patches from birth and antidepressents which sadly didnt work for me so when my son was 7 months old i went on mirtazapine which have changed my life i really dont know what would of happened without the drugs i didnt feel ashamed im a good mum with an illness just because you cant see it doesnt make it unreal.i try to tell myself every day look what you have acheived u run a house and 3 kids while your still ill you deserve a bloody medal!!!

I was on them for 1 year. In one year I put on 16lbs! Great for sleeping. Great for an overwhelming feeling of calmness/confidence (for me anyway).

I do not take them due to the weight gain. I am on some other sedatives now. Dry mouth seems to be the worse side effects.

OH tells me I am like tit in a trance and just shrug everything off now.

oh yes weight gain is huge my gp told me well its not the tablets its easy to blame them isnit lets face it you just eat too much -thanks for that!!
i said well if i didnt have such a huge appetite i wouldnt of put on so much weight .
have put on nearly 2 stone since ive been on them i dont care id rather be fat thankyou and stuff my face lets face it food is good !!!!!

I tried these a couple of weeks ago. They made me feel aggressively violent and by the evening I felt suicidal. I didn't take another. I tried again the following week when dh would be around and again I felt like I had very bad pmt. Again I didn't take another. I'm not sure if I've given them a fair chance. (The first time I did have some alcohol that evening)
Has anyone else had this? I'm not sure that I can cut out the alcohol completely and I din't want to get fat. If I was badly depressed all the time it wouldn't matter but it is intermittant though regular.

Berrie when I was taking them I read a lot of forums. There was a lady asking why her husband had started behaving so aggressively, so this may be a side effect for some, unfortunately.

Have you tried amitriptyline?

No. Citalopram worked for me in the past but has absolutly no impact now. I've had setraline, Lofepramine, and 2 others I don't remember the name of now.

What should I know about that one, am seeing the Doctor on Thursday?

Amitriptyline is of the older ones. It has a sedative effect as well as lifting the depression.

My nan has been taking 1 at night for as long as I remember.

I have been taking them for a months now and feel very calm. yes, I had the dry mouth to start with but it went after a week or so.

I hate the sedative effect though...I can't imagine getting up and getting the dc to school the next morning.

Its strange, although they knock you at [quite literally] when you wake up in the morning I feel as fresh as a daisy! [strange but true]

I had had a drink the first time.
I couldn't speak properly and I kept missing my step on the stairs the next morning. I know that the efffects are stronger when you first start any anti depressant. Maybe the Doctor will suggest I give it another try.

i tried amitryptaline and felt worse so it wasnt for me sometimes you have to try a few to get one that suits you .my sister has clinical depression and a personality disorder and she is on anti depressents although not sure what they are called shes on 200mg now thats a huge dose i dont know how she manages to deal with her baby one yr old

so ive upped my dose to 30mg for the last 3 nights as directed by my gp and yesterday had a wobble felt anxious again for no obvious reason im hoping that it was just a blip and that im still early days with my tablets i so want to get better its untrue. had a good sleep and feel a bit strange today
