Stuck for therapy

Has anyone managed to get nhs therapy for mental health issues when the CMHT won’t see you?

I’ve tried Talking Therapies but they say I’m too complex for them. But the CMHT discharged me. I think I need DBT. Can the GP access this on the nhs?

Maybe your private psychiatrist can write to your GP recommending DBT and asking if they will refer you for it on the NHS?

I’m just not sure if the GP can access it or whether it has to be through the CMHT?

I’m not sure either but it would be worth a try if your psychiatrist agrees that DBT would benefit you.

Thanks. My psych has requested the GP looks for my support for me but they just refer me to the CMHT or talking therapies who both reject me.

I think it depends on where you are in the country. From what I understand, DBT is available in some areas and not others. Referral pathways differ by region too.

Why won’t CMHT see you?
