Citalopram side effects

I started taking Citalopram (anti-anxiety/depression) about a year ago. I took it for 10 days before stopping because it made me so unbelievably sleepy - I found myself desperately wanting to go back to bed for two hour naps in the middle of the day, and when I was awake I couldn't get much done. I was assured any side effects would pass within a few weeks, but it was really getting in the way of my life, so I stopped taking them.

Following a few days this week of feeling like I was externally fine but internally walking a tightrope on the edge of a panic attack, I started taking them again. I was hoping that because I've taken them before the side effects might be less severe this time, but that infernal tiredness is back and I don't have time to nap for two weeks!!

Has anyone else had this? How long before it subsides? Would you recommend sticking with it, or should I ask my doctor for something different instead?

I would stick with it for a month and then go back to the doctor. If the side effects are going to subside, it should be evident by then. For me it was about 3 weeks IIRC

Can you take it at night? Or halve the dose? I used to just take 10mg.

Tell your GP what's going on though.

I take it in the evening, but I think halving the dose is a good idea. Or maybe just take it every other day. I'm going to try and get a telephone appointment with the doctor.
