i have spoken with a therapist and they have suggested EDMR therapy rather than CBT. I have a 3 year long and still on going difficult family situation - family estrangement from dsis and dm opg have applied to court of protection and dsis has been suspended as poa which is still ongoing they believe EDMR will help me process things better and not react to triggers as much

i have my first session tomorrow and for some reason i am nervous despite having 2 sessions with the therapist already explaining my whole sorry tale has anyone had this kind of therapy what can i expect in the sessions and did you find it beneficial

EMDR changed my life OP. I really rate it and I am soon to embark on another chapter of it for newer trauma.

I spent my entire life vomiting as a trauma response and this has completely gone now. It was a hard process, took a long time for me, but it gave me a real understanding of what happened to me and took the fear and the re-experiencing away.

I agree with @Buscake I had 9 months of Emdr for complex trauma. Every one reacts differently but for me I found not much seemed to change till 3 months in but after that it really did help. I think you need to go in with an open mind and go with it. I found it was very draining afterwards but the longterm benefits were worth it.

Thank you both for sharing your experiences. They sound positive. I am not having a good weekend as well as the family situation dd 25 struggles with her mental health ironically has a masters in clinical psychology she has a new job and needs to hand her notice in tomorrow and I have spent most of the weekend counselling her. Ds 21 went out last night and was working early this morning I had a vivid dream last night woke up at 1.30am this morning and he wasn’t home so I was texting him at 2.30 am asking when he would be home and then up at 7 am for him get up for work as I could hear his alarm wasn’t waking him up and I think the neighbour was banging on the wall

i just don’t think I can face it tomorrow morning or work after that i am just exhausted with it all. Taking it easy this afternoon and trying to distract myself from thinking about everything although dd who lives with her partner which is another stress is threatening to call me to talk through handling in her notice again as she’s working herself up
