Hey everyone so I’ve started sertraline 25mg and I kid you not I feel so so so so terrible!!! I’ve been having panic attacks, chest tightness, so much anxiety so so much more, headaches but it’s mainly the crippling anxiety chest tightness and panic attacks that are scaring me, is this normal? I thought I was bad before but goodness me this is another level… has anyone else experienced anything like this? Will it settle? I’ve only been on it for 5 days :( they actually said after a week double up to 50mg and I don’t think I can with the way I’m feeling it will be worse :(

Unfortunately when you have anxiety, taking the thing that will help you is anxiety inducing, so it’s no wonder you feel like you do! It took about 3 months for me to see the benefits when my DH started taking it, so stick with it and trust the process.

Thank you, I went to the out of hours GP and they advised I stop taking it immediately, it made me feel like I’m not living in a normal world and I’m still absolutely riddled with anxiety in so scared even now, I feel like it’s made me so much worse. I was waking up all night with panic attacks every one two hours 💔 I’m not sure what else they can give me I will call doctors Monday

I had this when I started Sertraline, and I had to stop taking it.
I had heart palpitations and panic attacks.
I am now on Mirtazapine and it's much better for me.

It gave me dreadful anxiety and panic attacks to start with, lasted a few days and then wore off. After that they just didn’t work for me unfortunately. I’m just saying I think it’s a normal side effect

Antidepressants always make me worse initially and I don’t born as on see the benefits for a few weeks.

I had this. I was on the phone to the emergency doctor twice in the first two weeks. They advised me to stick it out which I did, and I’m so glad I did. It’s really given me my life back, so the side effects at the start were, for me, totally worth it. It’s so hard though, I know how you feel.

This is the same experience I had - but with citalopram. I basically went mad and was jittery anxious and unable to even sit down. Let alone sleep.

NHS 111 told me to stop and I was v lucky to get an appt with a NHS psych who prescribed me mirtazapine, which is a different type of anti d to sertraline/citalopram.
