How to spot being sad over the past and now life is short

a big portion of my day is spent thinking about the past. Been like this mainly since I had children. But I seem to be spending alot of time feeling depressed about past experiences and how they’re gone. How simple life was working a simple job. Past boyfriends and how they were actually good boyfriends and how I binned one off for a bad one ( when I was young!)
im now in my late 20s and just feel sad how fast life has gone i feel old and like I have no good experiences coming and that they’re all gone now

Having children can make you look back at life differently, but being in your late 20s definitely doesn’t mean your best days are behind you. There’s still so much life ahead, even if it doesn’t feel that way right now.

Hello.

I get what you're saying. But it is unproductive and wastes the day, and also gets you in a downer which then ruins how you feel that day, and that of course spoils what you get out of the day.

I think what you are describing is the realisation that, like a pack of dogs in front of you, it is your duty to get hold of your thoughts, and direct them to something useful. Letting the dogs run wild and direct you is not right, they are your dogs and your thoughts in your head and you are the adult and you are in charge.

You are also old enough now to recognise better things for yourself. Your choices in the past were made when you were younger and less experienced, but you can change all that now, going forward.

Gather the two issues together and come up with a plan. What do you want your future to look like?

Great metaphor @something2say !

It seems OP you are already noticing your spiraling thoughts ; now be kind to yourself and gently redirect your attention to the present and do one small thing that makes you happy or gets you moving. One small step. Repeat.
