My mum has been suffering from extreme anxiety for the last 3 months. My dad has terminal cancer and obviously this is an incredibly difficult time for her. She was prescribed mirtazapine by a very unsympathetic GP and told her it was just tough if it doesn’t work. We’ve been backwards and forwards 3 times over the last 10 weeks to the GP. She has been on mirtazapine for 9 weeks and she has seen no improvement. The GP suggested stopping mirtazpine with immediate effect (basically going cold turkey) but I was worried about her doing this so in shear desperation I booked an appointment with an online Psychiatrist. He was the first person to really listen to my mum and took alot of time listening to all her symptoms - I know she was paying but he instantly put her at ease. He was horrified that a GP suggested stopping mirtazpine and told her to continue taking mirtazpine (15mg)but to add sertraline (25mg) too. Has anyone tried this combo ? Should she worried about serotonin syndrome combining 2?
