Tapering off sertraline

I’ve been on 50mg sertraline for about 12 years or more which has helped me through the awful anxiety I had during menopause.
I’ve successfully managed to taper down over a few weeks to 25mg then was advised to go
to 12.5mg. I then started with bad sleep, racing thoughts and felt a bit weepy and irritable.
My GP suggested 25/12.5mg on alternate days but this seems to counteract advice on slow tapering for long term users that I read on the Royal College of Psychiatrists website.
Ive decided to stay at 25mg until I can get some sound up to date advice as I feel very wary of my GP’s advice.
Has anyone found anywhere that will offer this?

Why do you want to come off OP? Has it stopped helping you?

Why not stay at 25mg indefinitely?

Just to add I am on a similar drug (Citalopram) and intend to stay on it forever basically

I’ve gone through the menopause and whilst it’s helped me, I’d like to come off it now as I don’t feel I need it.
I’m equally happy to stay on 25mg if needs be, but would like to at least try at some point to come off it as in 12+ years I’ve never tried.
The help I’m wanting is with tapering but it doesn’t feel that some GPs are that up to date

It sounds like it does help you though. People think they are okay so want to come off but it’s the medication that is making them feel okay. Just a thought.. why stop taking something that helps and has no negatives?

I think these symptoms are withdrawal and not at all like my original symptoms

I was able to come off quite easily when I last came off it do I wonder if you are not ready yet? I just stopped 50 cold turkey.

All the advice I’ve read is that the longer you’ve been on it you should taper slowly.
I’ve taken the advice of a pharmacist and will stay on 25mg for the foreseeable and then taper very slowly if I feel able to.
