Anxiety ponderings

Im sat here feeling my anxiety all over my body and wondering what it's like to not always feel anxious. 😔

I know people may have passing spells or moments of feeling anxious, but I'm so tired of always feeling this way.

Im on medication that does ease it a little and helps me to live my life without crumbling. But I never manage to fully get rid of it.

Do you think early childhood has wired me to feel this way? My childhood wasn't good. I've had therapy. Lots of therapy and made peace with it.

Can I ever NOT be an anxious person?

I wish I wasn't like this.

Anxiety is an emotion, so everyone feels it from time to time – it's the emotion that draws our attention to things that we need to attend to; everything from putting the bins out to dealing with a toxic relationship.

The key thing to ask yourself is 'what am I anxious about?' What are you anticipating?

Like all emotions, anxiety can misfire or appear when it's not needed, especially if you had to be on full alert when you were little. But it is possible to listen to it, understand it and manage it.

I get bouts of it, what helps is actively seeking self regulsting activities. Like yesterday I felt axious in evening trying to switch off from work, so deliberately found a comedy on netflix . This morning I feel more calm and safe . i know next week will be stressful but this pocket of calm makes it seem less bad.

On acceptance, i accept it - i had emdr which helped. The point is that anxiety has a purpose. It is a normal emotion. So telling myself not to have it is not realistic. It is jot a failing to have it. Etc. Acceptanct commitment therapy also helped.

There is a v old saying I am reminded of 'everything that you truly accept undergoes a change'.

I’m with you OP. I’m generally anxious with odd spells of calm and then spikes of very anxious. Had one today around a particular client who triggers me. I struggle with breathing and it affects my vision. When I’m at base line I’m incredibly tense and clenched. My spine is affected and I’m chronically constipated! I try and exercise and do some yoga / relaxation regularly.
