My GP has prescribed me 15mg mirtazapine to be taken before bed each night, to help tackle an acute but severe insomnia and anxiety flare. Previously, I slept really well, but I’ve recently had a bit of a work stress-related breakdown, which has led to the situation I’m in now.
I’m on day 4 and I’m still so zombified for most of the day. I managed a very short walk this morning and am now back on the sofa. I feel severely cognitively impaired — even something as simple as trying to order the weekly shop feels really challenging. On the positive side, it has definitely helped me sleep!
The doctor warned me I might feel extra sleepy or “hungover” in the mornings at first, but this feeling is lasting all day for me. I just can’t seem to bring myself to actually do much at all.
Is this normal for the first week? Does it improve? I’m signed off work thankfully, but there is no way I could function like this long-term.
I have a GP review booked for the 14-day point, but I’m honestly worried about taking it for that long without any hope of things improving on the brain-fog/cognitive impairment front.
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has taken mirtazapine and experienced this level of daytime sedation. Did it improve with time?
