Severe PMT affecting mood and relationships, has anyone coped similarly?

I suffer with really bad PMT, it affects my mood, relationships and work. I feel really sad, angry, irritable and depressed during the week before my period and regularly think about divorcing my husband during this time and sometimes have suicidal thoughts but I’d never actually do anything.
Have spoken to GP who recommended HRT due to my age (mid 40s) but I found I felt worse so have stopped it. Have also been offered anti depressants but don’t really want to take those due to the side effects and also it’s mainly just the few days before my period rather than all the time.
I look after myself, exercise, work full time and have children. I don’t really drink alcohol as it makes me feel worse.
I will seek further medical advice but wondered if anyone has experienced something similar and if so how you cope as it seems to come around so quickly each month! TIA

I think you need to push through with the medication

For PMDD, antidepressants can be taken just during the second half of your cycle, so they aren’t taken all the time

I had my ovaries removed for PMDD. It was an instant cure!

During my bad PMT the GP prescribed me Cerazette.

Think it’s the mini pill that you take every day with no break. The GP said that my temper was made worse by ovulation and it stops you ovulating. This was a long time ago so I could be misremembering. Have a Google x

Good experiences have something good to offer always.

Hi op. Try HRT again, it's the only thing that helped me.

You have to experiment with the type of progesterone though, bad pmdd suggests you are progesterone intolerant like I am. The Mirena and high oestrogen works best for me.

The younger you are the higher the oestrogen you need.
