Has anyone managed to stay slim while on antidepressants?

I always gain weight and tip into an ‘overweight’ BMI.

I’ve managed to lose 2 stone after coming off them for 8 months, but need to go back on them as I’m struggling. But I’m worried about putting all the weight back on.

Anyone managed to not gain weight, and stay slim while taking SSRIs? What are your tips?

I think part of it will depend on how you are when not on antidepressants eg my friend lost quite a bit of weight after she started taking them, but that’s because depression made her eat a lot, and with no energy to cook so it was a lot of takeaways etc.

I did, but probably only because of my very manual job (farming). Also, after the first few weeks, I had days when I was still 'too full' to eat.

Mental health drugs do that. They cause someone to eat more. I have always eaten 2 meals a day though mainly carbs, and protein. I do eat snacks but not alot. I am 240lbs at the moment. Its natural for them to do this.

Yes I have stayed at 81/2 - 9 stone - size 8 and been on sertraline 50-75mg on and off for afew years and in my 40s. I have not noticed much change in appetite or weight from being on it.

I try not to eat until full, just til content, eat little and often than big meals, have main meal by 6pm then eat nothing later. I exercise 2-3 times per week mix of cardio and weights

I didn’t gain any weight any of the times I took Sertraline. I exercise an awful lot- that probably helped.

Sertraline, no weight gain. In fact continued to lose weight.

Mirtazapine - gained so much weight.

So I think it depends on which drug you're on and why you're on it.
