Mirtazapine but don’t have insomnia

I’ve been prescribed 15mg mirtazapine but I don’t have insomnia, just anxiety & low mood.

Reading horror stories on here about possible effects of feeling like a zombie and also weight gain, not to mention anger.

I’ve just read a research article about mirtazapine weight gain and how it’s not just due to an increase in appetite leading to increased food intake, but how mirtazapine affects fat receptors and increases fat stores.

Has anyone on here been on mirtazapine and it NOT:
a) made you put on weight
b) made you sleepy in the daytime?

It’s making me not want to start them, and also read it can be a nightmare to come off them.

Thanks

No but I’ve asked to try this so I am also interested.

Not me, but my sister is on it for pain. No weight gain. No zombieness either. She does find she needs to go to bed a bit earlier than she used to, but that could be down to her health condition.

It didn't make me sleepy in daytime at all. I kmow a few people who take it, it can make you sleepy shortly after taking it which is why you take it at night.

It's an antidepressant not a treatment for insomnia, although that's a benefit for many, so it's entirely suitable for low mood and anxiety.

If you're worried about weight gain, speak to your gp they may be able to prescribe an alternative.

I was put on it for insomnia and I don't regret it as it worked but I did pit on two stone. I would avoid it if there's an alternative. I don't think it was just to do with increased appetite, I think my metabolism behaved differently
