Sometimes when I am at the beach I think the great Eastern Japan tsunami is happening again despite the fact that I have never lived in Japan

Sometimes when I am near a body of water, when I look at the horizon I feel that it is 2011 again and there is a tsunami and I need to run but it only lasts for a few seconds and then I look like an idiot. It does not happen every time I am near a body of water. It does not happen at rivers because you can see land at the other side. I have never been in a tsunami. Is this normal?

No.

It is perfectly normal to have a brief anxious fantasy like this. Sort of a 'what if' that is accompanied by a miniaturised version of the stress that that would accompany the event if it actually happened.

We all saw the incredibly shocking images on tv. It is natural to revisit that shock.
