Mirtazapine and weight gain

I’ve been on Mirt since Nov 25 and it has literally been a life saver for me. I was in one hell of a state and luckily it worked from the first night.

BUT! I’ve put on a stone in weight. I seemed to jump up half a stone and then plateaued for a while but it’s jumped another half stone now.

my downfall really is evening snacking. I’m not talking much, 3 plain digestive biscuits, but I’m always hungry.

has anyone got a solution to stop the hunger pangs. I’m hungry now as I’m writing this and I’ve just eaten spaghetti bolognaise.

anyway, any tips on something I can eat/drink to replace the biscuits and keep the cravings at bay?

I wish I only put on a stone with it, i put on 2 and was barely eating at all!

I found telling myself it was a false craving helped, reminding myself what I'd already eaten and that I couldn't possibly be hungry. Sometimes adding some fat to a meal helps a lot, a little cheese or having a glass of milk in the evening.

Oh yes, milk would help I think. Are you still on Mirt now and if not, did you find it easy to wean off?

I put 5 stone on in 5 years of taking it, I've managed over the last 18 months to lose 5.5 stone & am aiming to lose another 3 stone. Just watch the junk food, that was my downfall.

I was on Mirtazipine due to chronic insomnia. I put on half a stone in 5 months. I came off it about five years ago by tapering and it really wasn’t that bad. I had the odd bad night but was much more relaxed about it and, after years of terrible insomnia, I have never had it properly again. I suppose I have a poor nights sleep periodically like anyone but it doesn’t seem to spiral in my head anymore. I managed to lose the weight again over a few months just by monitoring my diet etc.

I put on about 2 stone and pretty quickly too. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to stop taking it as I had terrible insomnia after I tapered off and after six weeks of at most one hours sleep a night I gave in and started taking it again. I haven’t lost the weight, and I hate it. It definitely increase appetite.

I gained 1.5 after a couple years on a different medication and I’ve heard mirtazpine is even
worse for it so I’m not sure there is really an answer but in general can you trying increasing fibre with each meal?
That is meant to help you feel more full each meal

I put 3 stone on in 18 months it was horrendous. Thank fully when I stopped taking it the weight dropped off me without having to do any exercise. I found that it didn’t even work for me and if anything was making me worse. My hunger was so bad and I used to keep a five pack of snickers in my car because my blood sugars used to drop really suddenly 😬
