Recommendations for a trustworthy private therapist or counselling service in the UK

Life's really lifing at the moment and I think I need counselling or therapy.
I have AXA Healthcare, but unfortunately mental health treatment isn't included on my policy. Someone recommended BetterHelp, but after reading reviews I'm not sure it's the right choice.
Can anyone recommend a good private therapist, counselling service or company they've personally used in the UK? I'm happy to pay privately—I just want someone experienced and trustworthy.
If you've had a good experience with a particular therapist or service, I'd really appreciate any recommendations. Thank you.

Most important thing is to get a registered psychodynamic psychotherapist- not a counsellor (evening class level training, not able to cope with anything serious, dangerous for both you and them.) Not CBT or person-centred. Integrative (combined approaches) possibly.

absolutely not a ‘service’ of any kind. Psychotherapy works through the relationship you build as an individual with one therapist over time, and through the commitment you both make to put aside the same hour each week to the process. Anyone who lets you have ad hoc or irregular sessions is not serious.

What are you looking to achieve through therapy?

Please look on websites such as https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/ or https://portal.babcp.com/therapist/list if it’s CBT you want.

These will both list accredited counsellors and therapists.

also, consider Bupa.

Disagree. This poster would benefit from an assessment to determine their needs and therapy suitability. Not everyone needs psychodynamic therapy. Also, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with CBT or person-centred work either. Stop bashing other therapy modalities and pigeon holing one particular modality.

I think what type of therapist you want really depends on what you want to achieve in therapy. There isn't one right model or only one type of successful therapist or therapy.
