A friend has been prescribed a mild antidepressant and for the first time in her life developed a gambling habit currently costing us £70 a day while she’s on benefits you can do the maths quite quickly. She won’t have money for food within a matter of days.
She doesn’t care
Has this happened with other people?

She needs to go back to her GP asap. I think ADs can cause mania in people with bipolar.

I take anti psychotics; when I was on Aripiprazole I developed a spending addiction, it turns out that’s as thing! Now I’m off that & on quetiapine the addiction has just gone.

This sudden change in behaviour is deeply concerning and should be discussed urgently with her GP or prescribing clinician. Immediate support may also be needed to protect her finances and basic needs.
