Changing from antidepressants after ADHD diagnosis and experiences with non-stimulants

I've been taking Prozac for years to help with anxiety and depression. A few months ago I was diagnosed with ADHD, but the Dr said he didn't want to prescribe me meds while I was underweight.

My weight has now increased and so I asked my GP if it is possible to look at whether I should change meds to something that will help with all of the ADHD symptoms, or whether I could take something else alongside my ADs. She said she would have to refer me back to the ADHD team.

Has anyone successfully changed meds away from ADs once diagnosed?

And did non-stimulants work for your symptoms?

My MH nurse suggested right to choose for adhd and Im titrating at moment
im on 30mg of elvanse which is a stimulant
I take it alongside anti depressant (venafalaxine )
The adhd meds do help but I struggle to sleep so don’t want to increase the dose - I take my venafalaxine at night as it helps me sleep !

It's definitely worth speaking to the ADHD team, as they're usually the best people to advise on medication once you've been diagnosed.
From what I've read, some people stay on an antidepressant and add ADHD medication, while others find that once their ADHD is treated, they can review whether they still need an antidepressant. It seems to vary a lot depending on whether the anxiety and depression are separate conditions or are being driven largely by the ADHD.
I found some of the information from ADHD Certify helpful for understanding the different medication pathways and what to expect during titration, if you're looking to read more while you wait for the referral.
Hopefully someone who's made the switch can share their experience, as it's a question that comes up quite often.
