Any experience with Respiridone please?

Do any of you lovely people have experience of Resperidone; either yourself taking it or someone close to you?

It has been suggested moving our adult DD who has SLD to this drug and we need to make a decision within the next few days.

Unfortunately, she only has the speech and abilities of a 3 yr old so we can't ask her how she is feeling but she is presently very irritable and displaying aggressive behaviours towards people. She was taken off Sertraline several weeks ago and Respiridone has been suggested as an alternative.

Obviously, I'm aware of the weight gain possibility which does concern me but she also suffers from cluster epilepsy - although thankfully she has been seizure free now for over 2 years since the introduction of Clobazam - but I am reading such conflicting reports regarding Respiridone so would really appreciate any first hand knowledge.

DS2, also SLD, takes it to help manage Tourettes symptoms. It's only taken the lid off that but had other unexpected outcomes. He engages more - the first we noticed of that was that we no longer had to block the door when we took him to neuro appointments. The downside is that he engages more obsessively so will talk at us incessantly and push people's buttons for a reaction. Another plus is that he finally achieved daytime continence after starting to take it.

He takes it with his dinner, as a liquid soaked into some cake and we eat at about 7:30 as he takes himself to bed straight afterwards. This is an improvement from sometimes pacing until midnight then still getting up at first sparrow fart.

He's gained a little weight but needed to, tbh. He's like the Duracell bunny and was sometimes gaunt, before.

Thank you so much PickAChew.

Really appreciate this and your Duracell bunny sounds enchanting.🥰

We had a family member on Risperidone and it really helped with aggression and irritability. Biggest side effects were tiredness and weight gain, but overall it made things calmer. With her epilepsy, I’d just want the neurologist involved too.

Many thanks momz1.

Appointment in the morning so just hoping for a good outcome. 🤞
