Sorry me again. If you have a personality disorder and hear voices, have hallucinations, have strange experiences, what has helped you and have you been able to overcome it?

Hello, the way forward for PDs is Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and stick with it. Most people don’t like doing it, but research shows it works. There is another mode of therapy called Mentalization, which is recommended. There is a good YouTube channel called Borderliner Notes that has loads of resources. We don’t have to entertain all our thoughts. We can and should let some of them go. You might be getting caught up in unhelpful thoughts.

Hi @PurpleLovecats I recognise your name from other threads.
How are you feeling? Do you have any of the experiences or symptoms that you list?

Never had them myself but I do know a family member who has experienced aural & visual hallucinations. A cpn & meds have helped her greatly, with regular check-ins and occasional tweaks to her medication regimes. Even after 2-3 years she sometimes has blips, but they’re much less frequent & “softer” than before her treatment began.
Hope that helps.

Well not thoughts as I see them? When I’m off meds I see and hear angels who talk through the tv and shout at me and wake me up. I see bugs on my skin. Orbs and birds flying around, things like that.

Can I do DBT online? I’ve had CBT but that was useless.

The GP might refer you. It’s a standard pathway for PDs. It sounds distressing to have all that going on. I have a Christian faith and use mantras or prayers to calm my fears; and breathing exercises. Simple exercise too. I feel for you; it sounds difficult.

I’m on antipsychotic medication currently and doing really well but it runs out soon. Am so dreading the angels returning. I don’t think I’ll survive it this time.

Oh it does sound distressing 😔 Get yourself a mantra or a prayer for when you need it; and five minute meditation where you come back to your breath. You can build up that confidence to stay grounded. I use, ‘God is but love and therefore so am I’. It helps me stay focused when in danger of fear getting the better of me. You have my sympathy; it sounds hard.

Are they on a repeat prescription so you can just request them through your surgery ?
Please speak to your MH team if you are worried you won’t have meds, they can’t & won’t leave you to fall off a cliff like that.
Do you have someone to advocate for you? Perhaps your GP could help if you don’t want to contact the MH team. But please, call someone today so that any gaps in meds can be anticipated & prevented.

Wolfiefan · 12/05/2026 08:09

If the medication runs out why aren’t you getting another prescription?

They won’t prescribe them. They said I don’t need them, I’ve just been taking leftover ones I had. The MH team have discharged me.

Because they don’t prescribe them for me as they say I’m not psychotic, I just have a pd.

You poor love. One of my DC has auditory and visual hallucinations and has suffered for years.

Have you heard about Rufus May? https://rufusmay.com/2010/11/04/hearing-voices-and-self-help/

MH services are fucking shocking nowadays. Can you try and get a referral or present to A&E if it gets bad? 💐

Wolfiefan · 12/05/2026 11:05

Wasn’t there an issue where you didn’t agree with their diagnosis? Is that why you have been discharged?

Thanks I’ll take a look at that. If I go to A and E they just send me home. I’m currently doing really well but my meds run out next week so I’m trying to plan ahead.

Yes I don’t think I have a pd nor do my family but we are stuck with the diagnosis. They discharged me as they said they worried I would become dependent on them.
