Driving licence suspended due to MH

If you’ve lost your driving licence due to MH issues, do the DVLA write to you to let you know when you can reapply? Or is it just up to you to just keep trying every three months or so?
I found out I’ve lost mine at the weekend.

The Mind website has excellent advice on this and well worth reading. Please look at it so you can understand your options.Have you surrendered your license or did your doctor contact dvla? You can appeal this if you feel you want to. Also a process happens before your license is revoked, has this happened? Ultimately dvla will want to know that you are medically fit to drive so you will need your doctor to say this.

i was due a review do they clearly asked my gp who must have said I’m not safe to drive. I’m not appealing, just wondering if they will let me know when I can reapply?

You need 3-6 months stability generally depending on your condition /diagnosis.

Thanks that’s helpful, so will they write to me or do I just resubmit an application?

It all depends on if you have surrendered it or not. If you have then you can go through dvla at any time when your doctor says you are fit to drive. If you have had it revoked then you will have had information on why it had been revoked and if there is any time limit attached. If so then they should contact you I think once that time has passed.

Thanks. It says why but no time limit which was why I’m confused. I’m no longer under the MH team who supported me in getting it back last year.

If you are unsure if you have surrendered it or if it was revoked the best thing for you to do is call DVLA. There is a D1 form that you may need to fill in but it really depends on what decision was made re your license. So please do give them a ring.

It’s been revoked, I’ve not surrendered it. I was still driving when I received the letter saying to stop. My MH team who have discharged me said they were happy for me to drive. My gp must have said the opposite. I’m just unsure if they’ll write to me again to say I can reapply or if I just take a punt at some point and contact them.

I don't believe they will write to you. It would be up to you communicating with your Dr to determine when they would class you as safe to drive again
