I have been on an NHS waiting list for talk therapy for a while.
I joined and paid for Betterhelp in order to help myself whilst waiting for the NHS.
2 'therapists' and 5 sessions later and I think I need therapy to help me make sense of it.
First therapist spent a LOT of time talking about herself and all her problems. She said I had an addiction because I liked to eat chocolate when I felt a bit crap, she pushed an app onto me to monitor my chocolate eating and I told her no thanks. She also told me that the (well known) anti depressant I was taking was actually an antihistamine (!)
Second therapist started off well although her phone line was always cutting out.
I've then spent a session this morning chasing her and asking her to ring me back because the line disconnected. It completely goes against the feeling of safety you should have with a therapist when they make themselves inaccessible to you part way through a session when you are upset.
I've since read that the therapists on this platform can't 'cancel' clients and so I think what happened today was her just getting fed up with me and claiming it was her connection. Totally unprofessional!
Have any of you used this platform? What did you find?
