ADHD meds , AD meds or a combination ?

I am in the process of ADHD assessment via Right to Choose. This was suggested by my Mental Health nurse .

IF they give me options of meds, how will they interact with anti depressants ?

Has anyone come off AD to go on ADHD ones , or taken both ?

I know everyone is different and medical opinion is best. Just curious as I have read that anxiety can be a side effect of some ADHD meds

FWIW, I am on Venafalaxine 37.5 which helps with anxiety and depression but makes me drowsy.

TIA :)

Just wait for your assessment and then the chat around next steps

You can be on both, but wait and speak to the prescribing doctor as they will advise what is best in your situation. I have heard sometimes with RTC they do not manage patients who are already on another kind of medication as it is too complicated so you may get referred back to NHS psychiatry for that part, however just having the diagnosis will be helpful in itself. I was diagnosed 7 years before starting medication and it was still helpful.

Once you have a diagnosis a psychiatrist will help regarding medication.

ADHD meds is a very individual thing but to reassure you DD is on venlafaxine (at a much higher dose than you are on) and also takes medikinet. So it is possible.

However, ADHD meds is very much about working out what works for you as an individual. In every case where it as not worked here we have known within 24 hours and medication has been immediately adjusted. So don't be afraid to say if one is not for you and ask for something else.

Thanks - this is really reassuring to read !

Probably best not to be on anti depressants for titration. Fine to take anti depressants with stimulants. But depends on your medical history.

I don't think this will be true for everyone. For many people it will be best to stay on the medication they are on while they titrate a new one. Stopping suddenly can also be dangerous with some medications or cause side effects which would make it hard to tell what's happening with titration vs coming off the other medication.

OP should only get advice about what to do from a doctor in any case.

I asked my psych about this and he said staying on paroxetine 20mg was fine so I did and it is
