Got my next pyschotherapy/counselling session in a bit, some advice would be great

I've changed my name because some of my relatives sometimes lurk on here.

I'm about to go for my next session. When the session starts the counsellor doesn't say anything, she just sits there waiting for me to speak. I hate it. I never know where to start. I thought she was there to help me but it just stresses me out. Any advice?

Ok, Just talk about what's going on for you. It might be that you need a more focussed type of therapy ( she sounds a bit psychoanalytic), how long have you been seeing her for ?

Hi, I realise you've probably already gone to your session but I was just wondering whether your therapist spent any time explaining to you how she works in therapy, what to expect etc. I'm still training as a counsellor but I have already started seeing clients and I usually spend a little bit of time in the first session explaining how I like to work and what my approach to counselling is. If you've not already done this you could ask your therapist some questions along these lines - you might find it helps if you know what to expect and why she works that way.
