Supporting Others With Their Mental Health.

Hoping to find others in a similar situation to me for support.

My son has had a tough few years with his mental health and is under the CMHT but I’m struggling with knowing how to support him best. Things have been particularly difficult this weekend. Yesterday I called 111 but just got a recorded message saying the local crisis team were busy and to hold. After half an hour on hold I gave up. We then decided to got to the MIND recovery lounge which is 45 minute drive away. Got there paid for parking to find a note on the door saying closed due to staff shortages. In the end we went to A&E.
I’m scared for the future and what might happen if this carries on.
Can anyone relate to this? Have you got through it?
Thanks for reading.

Yes, my son is in and out of being actively suicidal. He’s also autistic and will not engage with any support offered. I don’t know how to help him and I’m scared I miss a moment where he goes off the edge.

Thank you for replying and I’m sorry you are in the same situation.

I just feel so helpless and alone at the moment and like I need to do more but I don’t know what I can do.

What did they say at A&E OP? It doesn’t seem that you could do much more unless you can fund private treatment.

It’s awful, you can only be there but I feel inadequate and that I’ve failed him

Gave him a leaflet on psychosis and said they’d email his CHMT psychiatrist to let him know he’d been to A&E

I’m sorry, that is so inadequate but not surprising. At least his psychiatrist will be made aware of the situation and hopefully take some action. What would you like to have for him in the way of treatment?

I don’t really know what I want him to have other than to get better and lead a happy healthy life. He has support around him, medication etc but it’s not enough and it’s so upsetting seeing him suffer and not being able to help. Wish he was five again and a cuddle was a magic healer.
