I’m in my late 50s, have a full on job and often find myself crying at least a few times a week. It’s usually late at night, when I’m feeling shattered and I’ve somehow got through the day. I do have a lot to deal with, elderly parents included and never take time off for illness. I could sleep now but I’m at work.

i don’t want to feel so sad anymore. Is this depression?

Possibly exhaustion. Can you take some holiday or ask your doctor (who you should talk to about this) to sign you off for a week? Your job will survive without you for a couple of weeks.

You need some you time , if you don’t start to out yourself first things will get worse.
you don’t get anything from a company because you’ve never been if sick ! You are a number the same as everyone else there.

take some time off , wether that means seeing gp for sick note for couple weeks at least just to see if things improve in yourself
Depression can creep up on you its likely it’s been doing that.
try and get lots of early nights

Are you married? Kids at home ?

The core of depression is the inability to feel happiness. It’s a persistent unvarying state. I guess it depends whether you feel happiness inbetween the crying
