I am very in love with my boyfriend and we have lived together for 3 years. Recently I have put on significant weight due to hypothyroidism. Yesterday he said that it looks like I have “wings on my back” due to a new bra. Am I right to be a little hurt?!

YANBU. That is a really thoughtless comment even if it isn’t intentionally spiteful.

Ilovecheeseyah · 26/02/2026 18:21

Yes I agree

Has he apologised?

GoldenCupsatHarvestTime · 26/02/2026 19:32

Seems rude of him to point it out unless he meant he found it endearing?

Horrible comment. It is so hard trying to manage hypothyroidism. It was a nasty cruel comment and you have every right to feel hurt.

Has he apologised?

Yea once I called him out & said “sorry it was the wrong choice of words”

Are you on medication and having it optimised? I find most GP’s fairly useless at optimising, endo’s are much better. You should then shed the weight.

Thank you for your insightful comment- yes on meds and have them checked every couple months. Sorry what are endos x

@Ilovecheeseyah Endocrinologist. While my GP managed my thyroxine for years, dosing per blood results, once I got an endo to review and play around with the thyroxine I dropped around 25kg in 9 months, purely from having the thyroxine tweaked.
