High cholesterol and quetiapine?

A routine blood test has come up with me having elevated cholesterol. I take a huge dose of quetiapine (2750mg). I’ve seen that it can cause problems with cholesterol. Has anyone else experienced this? I really don’t want to lower th dose as it keeps me OK most of the time.

I think a lot of MH medication can elevate cholesterol and/or blood sugar. I take statins for my high cholesterol and don’t get any side effects so that might be an option to reduce yours without having to change the Quetiapine?

I have my cholesterol level checked every year as part of my quetiapine annual health check. Yes it can cause raised cholesterol, I've been on it since 2012 at doses between 300 and 800 mg. Last year I had slightly raised levels I'm due this year's tests next month.

I take quetipine 600mg xr and I have high cholesterol i take statins and type 2 diabetes caused by the quetipine which i take medication for. Ive been on quetipine for 20 years. Quetipine makes me really tired even after 20 years so I dont know how you cope on such a high dose. Is there anything you take that helps with the tiredness? It also gives me a fast heart rate so I take propananol for that.

That’s a mammoth high dose OP. I’m also on statins and have never had any side effects.

Many thanks for the replies.

Quetiapine doesn’t make me sleepy af all. I’ve been on it 15 years, although not at the current dose. No weight gain, which im
glaD about. I have my quetiapine blood levels checked regularly. I am still a long way off being at the top of the level so in theory it could go up further. I’ve been told I metabolise it very quickly. Most of it doesn’t get into my bloodstream.

Wow, id be unconscious for 20 hours a day on that much. Ive also gained quite a bit of weight on it. Are you on the normal or xr one? I had to change to xr because I had horrendous restless legs with it.

The highest dose of Quetiapine (in the UK anyway) is 800mg daily. Are you sure you're on 2750mg 😂

I’m absolutely certain. We go by my blood levels. My psychiatrist did a lot of research on this and agreed to go to higher doses as 800mg barely registered on the blood test. I also take lamotrigine, agomelatinr, prochlaperazine and carbamazepine. It’s a lot!

It might be the xr thats made me so tired then. I cant stand the restless legs though its like being tortured.
